before people ask, (doubt it'll come up but HEY why not)
The below statement is from Stephen Silver's facebook explaining:
"Well the company behind the Life of Pi's stunning visual effects, which made the movie possible, Rhythm & Hues went bankrupt as the film just passed the billion dollar mark in global ticket sales. The 3D & VFX (visual effects) companies that make the Hollywood blockbuster movies possible, sign on to bad deals typically at a loss, the Hollywood production companies walk away with profits, and artists who dedicate their lives to their craft get short changed on salary, over-time and eventually job security. The green is a form of solidarity and protest for change in our industry."
NOW to why I am doing it- I am an indie writer. I am currently enjoying the struggles of my labor to publish the first book. I am supportive of the indie arts and non indie. IF you do any form of work that is your passion- be it music, writing, art, visual effects, acting, etc YOU DESERVE credit when your work gets recognition. Not to have a bunch of narcissistic ass wipes push you under the rug when it's your time to get your name in where it's owed.
I didn't see Life of Pi. I did, however, see enough stills, clips and previews to admit- the movie was visually = breathtaking. I also know that the people who worked tirelessly over the computers and other tools to make the movie EXACTLY how it had to be, to earn it's Oscar.
SO yeah, all art has value. Not just the guy in the limelight acting out the movie.
