The Red Carpet Disaster At The VGMA2017
Years ago , The fashion industry in Ghana was one of the highly detested and looked down upon industry in Ghana. This was owing to the the fact that it was neglected and drenched which celebrities never cared about their appearance in the public eye.
Fast forward to today, we still lack the presence of top- notch fashion icons, most especially in the circles of celebrities. All we see them do is forcefully and wrongly branding themselves with some sort of fashion with very little or no clue whatsoever of what it takes to be a fashion icon.
The Art of Fashion goes beyond wearing cartoon costumes , carnival costumes and swimsuits to Outdoor events . Ghanaian celebrities are fond of wearing outlandish and out of proportion cloths to events. Its understandable to make a fashion statement on the redcarpet but this involves a lot of research and work from the glam team if you have any. Being a celebrity, there is a standard (in my opinion) that is expected of you and so it would be in your best interest to jave a glam team with a stylist or stylists who understand what it takes to put together a red carpet look as well as knows what fits your body. In addition to this, this stylist should be able to advice on the best designer to handle the creation of this particular outfit so you dont step on the red carpet in an outfit that looks like you want to transform into a robot. The stylist should also be able to coordinate with the make up artist and hair stylist so that the look is well merged together flawlessly instead of having you in a dress with makeup and hairstyle that doesn’t flatter you.
THE UNPROFESSIONAL DESIGNER
Designers are Horribly contributing to the Desiny Costumes we see on the redcarpet .
It’s the responsibility of a designer to also help clients to be more realistic and factual during consultation. Let them know what is possible and what is not , what is perfect and what isn’t Because And the end of the day you are putting your brand in jeopardy if it doesn’t go right .However designers must note the thin distinction between avant-garde and Haute couture and placing yards and yards of fabric on a dress with some ill fitting cute does NOT make it couture.
THE APPALLING RED CARPET IMAGES
Good photography contributes to the seriousness and glamour of the Red Carpet . The WTF images by some group of amateur photographers were just disgusting which contributed to the awful looking celebrities on the red-carpet . Another factor that didnt help or probably hindered the photographers from getting good pictures was that, THE LIGHTING ON THE RED CARPET WAS SHITY AS HELL! I dont know what the inspiration was for that but for next time they should consider doing something else.
THE BORING AND IGNORANT RED CARPET HOST AND HOSTESS .
Berla Mundi And Elikem Kumordzi hosted the red carpet at the 2017 edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards . I must sincerely express my displeasure for hosting a Red Carpet event like some sort of kidafest show . They seemed to have very little knowledge of what to ask or how to ask it so it make interactions very sloppy and messy. They should also be aware of their environment and act appropriately. I just could not understand how someone could forget themselves and start having a side conversation whilst the other host is interviewing someone forgetting that the microphone is still on and we can hear that conversation going on too. I really wonder if there was someone coordinating how the celebrities went up and how long they stayed on the red carpet stage because they did not do too good a job. Each celebrity should be made aware of how much time they get on the red carpet and that time should be strictly adhered to.
If this is Elikem’s first time hosting the red carpet some of his shortcomings can be excused but what cannot be excused is his attempt to turn every conversation and interaction to the ELIKEM SHOW and talking about himself. We know you are a designer and you want to market yourself but please we are not here for that so a few subtle hints would be enough.
In the sea of awful outfits, two ladies shined very bright in my opinion and they are MzVee and Mrs Theresa Ayoade of Charter House. They both pulled off their looks very nicely.
