Mail Time!

Joe Seppi sends packages just ‘cause. 

I think my brother, Joe Seppi, sent me this package on or shortly after my birthday, but I just couldn’t find the time to get to the Post Office until yesterday. It’s all for the best, though. There’s nothing better than being gifted packages when they’re not associated with a special event. I’m going to pretend that he just sent this out of random act of brotherly love.

The package is filled with VGoT swag. VGoT, or The Victory Garden of Tomorrow, is a brand that he’s been building since as long as I can remember. When I really consider Joe’s journey as an graphic designer and thinker, I just get so proud of the guy. He started out making underground zines and sort of edgy shirts about urban density and urban farm. He seemed pretty radical at the time, but he kind of took off with the whole-foods movement and just look at what he’s doing now.

What I like about VGoT is that, yes the illustrations are just awesome, but that it’s really about changing consumer habits. It’s about embracing DIY and a new American identity that I find incredibly empowering. It’s all about serving the community while embracing the most basic elements of craftsmanship. Joe puts it best and if you’re interested you should visit his webpage. He just has a way of explaining the brand and telling the story that I can only begin to touch.

I hope one day I can tell stories ancillary to Joe’s project, something that could compliment the work that he’s doing. I don’t want to jump on his brand necessarily, but I love the idea of helping my brother out. He’s a great guy and he puts together a great gift package for no reason other than to send a package. What a guy. Thanks Joe!
