This is the House Built on Sin - Alecto & James - 2 Dec 1979
Location: Ministry of Magic, Atrium Time: 11:30am
James really and truly wished that his beloved wife could be pretty much anywhere except here. She wasn’t even showing yet, but this was the first time since Halloween that they’d been out on a real, true mission for the Order and it was starting to sink in that they were performing duties for the Order while she was carrying the most precious gift that any of them on this Earth, Wizardkind and Muggle alike, could ever hope to receive. Their baby was nestled safe and trusting in her belly and what were they doing? Running around as though nothing had changed...
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, shoving his hands back through his unruly black locks. Trust. He had to trust her. He did trust her. Lily was the smartest person he knew. She was the brightest witch, she was fantastic at dueling, she was loaded down with various charmed objects and potions of her own design... she was safe and they had a job to do.
‘Focus Potter. Just fucking Focus.’
Taking a deep breath, he looked around, trying not to roll his eyes at the sight of the statue in the middle of the atrium, though he pretty much always did. The way that the various non-humans were all gazing with such adoration up at the Wizard. The House Elf maybe, although Hokey would be just as likely to box his ears as ‘gaze at him with adoration’. Still, he fished out a galleon and tossed it into the pool with a wish for his wife and mate’s safety. Couldn’t hurt...
Keeping one hand on his wand in it’s holster at his hip, he turned and surveyed the people around him, only half-listening to Bagnold give her speech. He was sure it was interesting enough but politics really didn’t interest him much. If she allowed them to keep trying to fight the Death Eaters, that was good enough in his books.
He was just turning to survey another area when the first shots rang out. He cursed, his wand in his hand within seconds and a silent shield charm cast around a large group of civilians. One thing you had to say for Dumbledore, he was rarely wrong on his hunches.
Catching sight of one of the masked assholes, he shot an expelliarmus at her, hoping to get her down and out fast.
