when do u think we’ll realistically get season 2 😪
they start filming in a few weeks i think so.. a year? or more? 😩
tea emoji film school~
ooh boy we starting off with a doozy.
first of all i think…film school is way more of a grind than ppl give it (or any arts-related field of study, for that matter) credit for.
a creative outlet you’re passionate about suddenly becomes a source of stress. you no longer get to write to escape, you must write to impress. you have to be the best. and even then, it won’t be perfect. there’s no equivalent of getting 100% correct on a test in film. nothing is or can be perfect. you write to express yourself and according to your teachers and peers yourself is just not good enough.
if you’re a film production major, godspeed. idk how you survive the countless hours you have to invest outside of class to write scripts, prep for set, actually work on set, do post-production, then finally show your final product to the world only to, just like above, be scrutinized by and compared to everyone around you.
suddenly, art becomes a chore yet also something your life depends on - your ability to express yourself and your ideas clear but not too obviously, originally but not too abstractly, entertaining but not too stupidly, is what will decide your ability to survive in this field.
as will your financial ability. clear up 2-3 days in your schedule for full work days of unpaid labor for “college credit” (that you may even have to pay tuition to your school for - yes, PAY TO DO LABOR) and “experience”. if you’re a working student funding your own tuition, good fucking luck, bc these unpaid internships generally only accept/prefer currently enrolled students, so you can’t go back for the experience post-grad.
and let’s not forget abt the ppl. the film hoes, the white men who think loving t*rantino movies is a substitute for a personality. ppl who think classic hollywood cinema is the greatest storytelling media in the history of humanity and will turn their noses up at you if you dare suggest you enjoyed the latest marvel film.
film school is a painful grind for an uncertain future that will give you both friends and ppl you literally cannot stand but have to be nice to so they’ll consider you for work in the future if they succeed before you.
and ofc if you’re a poc, queer, female, immigrant, lower class……you’ve got double the battles to win
send me a ☕️ and a topic and I’ll talk about how I feel about it
