Vic Mars - Inner Roads And Outer Paths - if you were unable to get a physical copy of this beautiful folktronica album from Clay Pipe Music, the artist has recently made it available for download on Bandcamp, with two extra tracks.

Includes 2 bonus tracks. Inner Roads and Outer Paths is Herefordshire born Vic Mars’ third release on Clay Pipe Music. It follows last years ‘The Soundtrack To The Hospice’ commissioned by Gideon Coe for BBC 6 Music, and 2015s critically acclaimed ‘The Land and the Garden’. Inspired by in part by Alfred Watkins words and photographs of Herefordshire, the record also harks back to a period in Vic’s youth spent exploring the abandoned houses and factories on the fringes of his home town; the in-between places where nature either takes back, or loses its grip. On a recent visit home, he found a new road cutting through the fields he had played in as a child, and realised that some of the older pathways and lanes had become lost or overgrown. It is a record of trails, roads and holloways, that lead you out along the river, through ruined arches and over railway lines, past crumbling stately homes and back into the centre of town. The album was recorded with 1980s style ‘tracker’ software, and a collection of instruments that includes alto recorders, school glockenspiels, a Roland Juno 60 and a Korg Monopoly. He manages to merge the wow and flutter of orchestral sounds from vintage British cinema documentaries, with Freddie Phillips style acoustic guitars and sequenced analogue synths. ‘Inner Roads and Outer Paths’ is a lush beautiful record that magically captures the Hereford landscape of Vic’s youth.creditsreleased October 4, 2019 Originally released on Clay Pipe Music 4th October 2019. Vic Mars - Bannau Brycheiniog - A Beacons Companion - a new Clay Pipe Music release is always a treat

The majority of the music on 'Bannau Brycheiniog' was composed during the final stages of work on Vic Mars’ last LP, 'The Beacons', and thematically the music draws inspiration from the same landscape. However, this collection embraces a more ambient approach, employing a predominantly synth-based palette.

Clay Pipe Music is thrilled to announce "The Beacons," the enigmatic producer Vic Mars’ third LP for the label. Since 2019’s ‘Inner Roads and Outer Paths’ his music has found a new audience having been used as the soundtrack to the game 'I am Dead' by British interactive studio Hollow Ponds. While his previous two albums were inspired by the pastoral landscapes of Herefordshire, 'The Beacons,' embarks on a journey westward into Wales, inviting listeners into the rugged terrain of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. Using a darker more ominous sonic palette, and pushing the sound of the Moog synthesizer to the fore, The Beacons captures the feel of mountains silhouetted against dramatic skies, craggy summits and the overall grandeur of the landscape and its rich folklore. Stories of plane crashes, a monument honouring a missing boy, and legends such the mysterious door within Llyn Cwm Llwch lake— said to open to an invisible island - all helped shape the making of the record. With the addition of live drums, viola, a Juno 60 and field recordings alongside his distinctive Mellotrons and flutes, Vic has explored new ground, but still maintained the melodic interest and home spun charm of his earlier records. Although now based in London Vic grew up in Hereford, in winter time the distant ice capped peaks of the Beacons served as a childhood barometer, a hopeful indicator that the city might also be graced with snow. In better weather there were days out with family or friends, clambering up Pen-y-fan or visiting the beautiful waterfalls at Ystradfellte. All these formative experiences seep into the music on this record, weaving an enchanting spell that captures the vastness of the mountain ranges and the stories they tell.
