Vicki Vickers 

Vicki Vickers, one of Southern California’s most notable skater chicks rose to pro status when it was promised that she could “skate like one of the guys”. One of the most admirable aspects of Vicker’s skating career was her integral role in advocacy for women’s rights. She coined the phrase “equal pay for equal skate”, which became a popular sentiment in many zines and skate apparel during her career in the late 1970s. She was the first woman to invent the ‘handplant’ trick, in which skaters would grab the board at their feet when they ‘catch air’.
