I think Malachai had a thing for Vicky.
He was stalking her as she slept. Idk. I just recently read it as an interest in her after considering the reasons below.
In the Outlander scene, he cuts her with his knife then clamps his hand over her mouth. In Harvesting Horror, one of the kinds of weapons used in the film were described as "phallic knives." Then he says to her closely "Night is coming. Night is his time."
He decided to remove Vicky from the cross and put Isaac on instead. He was going to be the cult leader when Isaac died. He knew that if he didn't get rid of Isaac she would have been sacrificed.
So, yeah, maybe the reason for his rebellion against Isaac was so he could remake the laws and be with Vicky? And, of course, he'd kill Burt. But we all know all that didn't go as planned.
