Recently popped my Sacramento punk scene cherry this Monday at the cafe colonial / the colony and it was everything I’ve ever wanted all in one place. There is good grub, PBR on tap and two venues right next to each other both supplying affordable hard energy and a gaggle of all ages and different peeps . Everyone being there for the music and community. Though I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb there was no harsh looks pointed my way.
I enjoyed the bands so much that I gathered the courage that 3 pints had given me and approached two of these bands to get interviews and see what goes on in their minds in regards to their creations.
Though my questions were drunkenly cliche’ I appreciated how welcoming everyone was and feel the need to post what we talked about .
My first interview was with the band Death Rogen and their drummer Hector (neglected to get his full name)
Q: Inspiration ? A: “Records, influenced heavily by Germs, Henry Rollins, Johnny Cash and S.O.A.D.” Q: What motivates you and the band? A: “ Music makes people feel good, inspires a community” Q:Why strip your clothes during the show? A:” It’s the moment.”
My second interview was with Chris (vocals) and Paul (drummer) from Victim System . If I had thought ahead I would have paid more attention to who answered which question but at the time I was not so I did not.
Q: What was the initial inspiration for this band? A: “We had been in two other bands together the past two years and then formed Victim System. We like to play. And if you can’t play the write good lyrics.” Q: Future Hopes? A: “Anything and anywhere.” Q: Advice to the tikes? A: “Stick to it and have fun, don’t let it become work.” Q:Best thing about your genre of music? A: “There’s no right or wrong . When you feel it you feel it.”
A big thanx to Death Rogen and Victime System for taking the time to talk with me looking forward to seeing them both again
