#sketchbook October 2020. The likeness isn't really there, but this is based off of #jazz bassist #VictorBailey. One of my favorite electric bassists, having initially taken over Jaco Pastorius's slot in Weather Report, but had a storied and brilliant career as a session player and solo artist before his passing a few years back. Star of the show at tonight’s @twosevenkilo acoustic practice was this acoustic bass: the first of two prototypes for the Fender Victor Bailey Acoustic Bass. I had an email exchange at one point with Victor about this instrument - said he loved the fact that he could sit on his couch, unplugged, with it, and play through all of his material. Said he felt this particular proto was a bit too “orange” for his liking - the second proto and subsequent production models were not. My super-talented buddy Mike of @twosevenkilo put it through its paces tonight, and it sounded phenomenal! The Pace Report: "A Progressive Guitar Tale" The Larry Coryell Interview

Greetings Peeps,

As you've probably read or heard this evening, jazz legend Larry Coryell made his transition this morning.

Larry was the "Father of Jazz/Rock" as he fused the rock elements of the music he grew up listening to during his teens along with the blues and stretched it over to the jazz side.

Larry's best known for his time in Gary Burton's group during the late 1960's in that landmark "Duster" recording as well as the iconic Herbie Mann recording, "Memphis Underground."

His breakthrough 3rd solo album "Spaces" featured John McLaughlin on guitar, Chick Corea on electric piano, Miroslav Vitouš on bass and Billy Cobham on drums.

This interview of Larry and I was shot three years ago at the famed Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with his trio featuring the late Victor Bailey on bass and Lenny White on drums. Larry talks about his musical influences and his take on what he did to develop his own style.

Rest in peace and thank you for your musical input.
