Medien und besonders Videoinhalte machen laut der aktuellen ARD/ZDF-Onlinestudie einen beträchtlichen Teil der Internetnutzung in Deutschland aus. Demnach sehen sich 60 Prozent der Befragten mindestens einmal wöchentlich Bewegtbilder im Netz an. Die beliebtesten Kanäle sind Videoportale (etwa YouTube) und Video-Streamingdienste (etwa Netflix). Fernsehen im Internet (live oder zeitversetzt) guckt etwa jeder Vierte. Ein Videoportal, das Vielen vermutlich nicht sofort einfallen würde ist Facebook – 21 Prozent sehen sich Clips über das soziale Netzwerk an. Damit liegt es nur knapp hinter den Mediatheken deutscher TV-Sender, wie die Infografik von Statista zeigt. Die beliebtesten Angebote hier sind ARD, ZDF und RTL. Bei den Video-Streamingdiensten sind Netflix, Amazon Prime und iTunes vorne. Video ist übrigens für den mit Abstand größten Teil des weltweiten Internet-Traffics verantwortlich: 58 Prozent werden laut Global Internet Phenomena Report von Sandvine durch das Streamen von Filmen, Serien oder anderen Bewegtbildern verursacht.
