Nafs al-Lawwama (Self-Accusing): This is the active struggle against base urges, marked by guilt after sinning. Control it via strict self-auditing (Muhasaba), immediate repentance (Tawbah), and consciously denying your senses forbidden stimuli.
Nafs al-Mutma'inna (Tranquil): The state of perfect inner peace. It is attained through relentless divine remembrance (Dhikr) until the ego is entirely tamed. The crux is that desires are no longer violently suppressed; they are fully purified to naturally align with higher virtues and divine will.
