CONCRETE recommends: FAIRLIGHT CLUB X VIHANNA pres. DJ Q (UK/BBC 1XTRA)
Proving their exceptional taste in bookings once again, the boys from Fairlight Club team up with Vihanna to bring one of the biggest names in the UK Bass scene today to Vienna - BBC 1XTRA Resident DJ Q.
Getting involved into the UK Garage scene at the tender age of 12 by buying vinyls and tape decks, the Huddersfield-native taught himself how to DJ in his bedroom before being booked at local parties when he was 15.
in 2004, DJ Q’s rise to fame started when a friend informed him that BBC1 XTRA was looking for someone on the pulse of North England’s rising Bassline scene. Q submitted a mixtape and was soon crowned as the youngest ever DJ on 1 XTRA, hosting the fortnightly UKG Mix Show.
The radio show became a big success and his first releases, classics like “Tea Bag” or “You Wot”, of which the latter even made it to the UK Top 50, were only the beginning of DJ Q’s dynasty as top shelf producer and DJ. It didn’t take long before he was invited to remix the likes of Amy Winehouse, Dizzee Rascal, Katy B or Keri Hilson to name a few.
After 8 years as resident for BBC 1XTRA, hosting the weekly UKG Mix Show, frequent guest appearances at the sister station BBC Radio 1 and constant EP and Single releases, Q departed from the station to host the monthly Essential Garage show over at Ministry of Sound and focus on his productions.
Over 10 releases have come from DJ Q since 2012, including “Say to You”, the “Sound Boy Collection” EP and three single releases off his LP, “Ineffable”, which released in 2014.
When he’s not busy curating massive festivals, DJ Q tours across the globe to bring North England’s finest bass music to the masses. Catch him TONIGHT (Friday, 15th May) at Club Titanic along with Fairlight Club’s and Vihanna’s combined legion of residents for the nice price of 8 Euros.
