Murphy's Law
@viktorialomidze Port Leiry
The weather is awful. That much is true.
Sadie's never been through a Hurricane, unless you count when one hits the Southeast and manages to fling the last vestiges of it's dying energy into the lower dips of the Ohio River Valley. She'd expected rain, moving somewhere like Port Leiry, but this? This was RIDICULOUS.
She'd made a rush job of getting stuff off the floor, at least, in case floods happened, but she's not about to run out and stand in sandbags when she has LESS than a day to prepare and the weather is already awful. But it does occur to her that, oh god. She has one place she's forgotten about.
She's driving back from the school, eyes worriedly snapping between the turtle tank strapped into her back seat and the windshield ahead of her that is so slick with rain-sheets that she can barely see ten feet ahead. It's slow, nervous going, but eventually she reaches her street, and it's a look of pure bewildered shock that creeps into her face pulls up to her home, jaw gone slack. A tree sits, fallen across her neighbors fence and her tiny back yard, crashed quite fully through her roof and her home.
It's shock, really, that prompts the words boiling up out of her. "Do you see this shit, Da Vinky?"
Da Vinky sits quietly in the back seat, watching rain pelt the glass beyond the window of his glass home. At least it's not me, the turtle thinks. It's pouring buckets. The Wind is only getting worse. The Stadium's opening a shelter, but she has a turtle to think about. Her mind, for whatever reason, goes to someone else immediately. She grabs her phone.
