A good year after Montblanc’s 100th anniversary (having been founded in 1906), something happened that is likely unique in watch history. Another manufacture named #Minerva, founded by Charles Robert in 1858 (Villeret, Switzerland) and particularly respected for its high-end chronograph movements, was integrated into @montblanc after Richemont acquired Minerva at the end of 2006. Thanks to this move two decades ago, #Montblanc is now not only known for its sleek writing instruments from #Hamburg and sophisticated leather goods from #Florence, but also its high-end watch movements made in #Villeret (while its flagship models such as Geosphere are produced at Le Locle, Switzerland). Looking at this 1940s Minerva chrono, Calibre 13.20 CH, it isn’t hard to see how the DNA of Minerva lives on in Montblanc’s watches today. How Montblanc is continuing the rich legacy of Minerva and where the company is headed is up for discussion in our latest article by Jörn Frederic Kengelbach – link in bio.
