Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line, then tag some of your favorite authors!
Soooo I only have 8 works published so far in order of most recent published, and I’ll add the WIPs that have at least the first few lines. I will do the published first since those will have links. Also I’m kinda cheating?? Because I’m probably going to put the first few paragraphs on some. or all
Thank you to @goneadrift for tagging me!
1. A Second Chance (Digimon - mimato)
"But Mooooom," a young boy with dirty blonde, slightly spiked hair and bright red/brown eyes complained in an annoyed voice.
"Hiroyuki Tachikawa don't you start. Weren't you the one who kept saying you want to move to Japan with your grandparents?" Mimi spoke to her son with her hands on her hips.
2. Radio Amestris- Sept 7th 1922 (FMA - royai)
Thank you for joining us today with Radio Amestris. I am your host Cecilia Marron.
On this fine September evening, we’d like to announce the upcoming wedding of The Famous Flame Alchemist, General Roy Mustang and the equally famous Hawk’s Eye, Major Riza Hawkeye. We have exclusive interviews from some of their closest colleagues and confidants about the mid-October nuptials, with some of the details you can only hear with us, dear listeners. All of that and more later in the show.
But first, a word from our sponsor-
3. Rare Occurrences (FMA - royai) Part 3 of the Not-So-Secret Series.
It was rare when Riza was allowed to bring Anthony to work. When she first started doing so, the rest of the team almost immediately knew of their superiors’ obvious secret in the form of a child. It was agreed that they would never tell a soul, and if interrogated will claim plausible deniability for the sake of their own careers (despite knowing the truth). They eagerly accepted this, and were all involved in the young boy’s life.
4. A Night In (FMA - royai) Part 2 of the Not-So-Secret Series.
“Go, we’ll be fine.”
“He’ll wake up in a few hours, but there’s a bottle in the refrigerator, just warm it up but not too hot- test it on-” Riza was dressed for a night out, standing in the doorway with her purse slung over her shoulder.
“On my wrist.” Roy was holding their sleeping infant on his shoulder.
She paused for a second. “You know on second thought, maybe I should just call Rebecca and cancel. I’m sure she would understand.”
5. All It Took Was Babysitting (FMA - royai) *Note: The first few lines of this one don’t explain what’s going to happen in the story hahaha
Even after his eyesight was returned (not perfectly, but nothing a pair of reading glasses wouldn’t help), the doctors and the new Fuhrer himself ordered Roy Mustang on medical leave. It was no surprise that Riza Hawkeye was also on medical leave, although he agreed with her extended time off, given the recovery on a neck wound.
They, of course, were using this time to wrap things up in Central as Roy and his team were given their orders to report to Ishval to start the restoration project in the next month as soon as he and Riza were released back to work.
6. Someday, Someday (FMA - royai) Part 1 of the Not-So-Secret Series and Part 2 of the In the eye of a hurricane - Hamilton based works Series.
It was close to midnight, and the nurses had made everyone (and it was everyone- team Mustang and Rebecca) leave to let the new mother settle in with her newborn son. They had made an exception for visiting hours due to Rebecca’s insistence that they were all her immediate family and if they had a problem, they can take it up with the Fuhrer himself.
With a small, relaxed sigh, Riza held the boy to her chest as she watched his unfocused eyes look around. He was quiet, and so small. He had a mat of black hair and brown eyes- her own eyes.
7. Burn (FMA - ANGSTY ROYAI) Part 1 of the In the eye of a hurricane - Hamilton based works Series. *Note: This is simultaneously the most heartbreaking story I’ve written thus far, and the first fic I wrote after not writing for almost 5 years.
The damn press.
The letters that were published.
After everything they worked for, after the war and bloodshed and laws that they overcame together… together… together.
Riza looked again at the newspaper in front of her, the bits of the radio still on the floor from when she knocked it off the small table it normally stood on.
She had given up everything for him, but in response all she got was burned. In more ways than she could ever count. It was ironic, she thought; that even in this moment, she couldn’t get away from fire… the flame. Everything led back to that damn element.
8. Loss (FMA - royai)
It was the evening of the funeral.
Roy Mustang had attempted to interrogate as many people as possible; having thought his grieving time was over shortly after the ceremony. He was still in his dress uniform, as was his adjutant who followed his footsteps throughout the trying day.
It wasn't until they arrived at his hotel that it started to creep up on him.
Riza knew that it wasn't wise to leave him alone, but she was torn as to how to go about doing this. She couldn't exactly reach out and hold him, telling him everything would be alright. No, that would be inappropriate, and if she were being honest with herself, it would be a lie as well for all she knew.
Now the WIPs - I was going to say “let’s start with the crack ideas first,” but most of them are crack ideas.
9. Untitled Cat!Roy Idea (FMA - royai)
“It’s unstable alchemy,” Brigadier General Roy Mustang was wearing his ignition gloves with his hands at the ready, Captain Riza Hawkeye and First Lieutenant Jean Havoc flanked his sides, a step behind.
They were in an abandoned building in Central- one that hadn’t quite been rebuilt yet (maybe never would be as it wasn’t on military radar until reports of strange sounds and deformed and deceased animals started surrounding it). Tattered, worn, and torn alchemy textbooks were littered around the floor. Broken transmutation circles were drawn and redrawn around every step they took.
“It looks like a madman’s research room,” Hawkeye’s eyes scanned the room before making meaningful contact with Mustang’s own.
10. Untitled Mini Skirt Idea (FMA - royai)
“This is NOT the first time you’ve played poker. I’ve known you longer than anyone here, and you’re acting like this game is new to you,” Mustang’s words weren’t exactly slurred, but it was quite noticeable that he’d been having a few drinks. Sitting around the table were the rest of his team, with the exception of Maes Hughes to his right, snickering at the completely innocent looking face of the woman sitting directly across from Roy.
Riza Hawkeye knew how to bluff, but it seemed that the alcohol made Roy seem to forget that particular skill of hers. Having only had a glass of wine (working on her second), she played this aspect to the best of her ability, much to the satisfaction of the inebriated men surrounding them. Even Kain Fuery (who only had one drink that evening) was enjoying the show his superiors were putting on.
11. Untitled Post-PD Idea where Riza surprises Roy with an unexpected answer (FMA - royai)
It had been a long, exhausting, but frankly fulfilling day of manual labor, and he was ready for the weekend. It felt good to help rebuild the very cities he helped destroy. It would never bring the dead back to life, but it was part of their journey to atonement.
Here in Ishval, it was decided that it was too hot to work out in the field in uniform (mostly because Roy Mustang was the one leading the project, and he didn't want to wear the damned thing). It was due to this that he entered the house his team had called home for the past six months wearing a pair of dirt stained pants and a t-shirt stuck to his back with sweat. He was in desperate need of a shower, but stopped in the kitchen first to get a glass of water, and smiled when he noticed Riza Hawkeye sitting at the table in the middle of the room, drinking from her own glass, looking tired and disheveled from her own work, wearing a sleeveless tight fitting shirt with a towel around her neck.
12. Control - Collab with RoyaiFan101 on Ao3 (FMA - young!Riza, slight royai)
She wasn’t her mother.
She wasn’t her father either.
The man who raised her believed her to be his own, although he never treated her as a daughter. How could he? She had killed the love of his life.
The thing had killed the one person Berthold Hawkeye ever felt truly complete with. If she had never been conceived, never been born, his wife- his Elizabeth -would still be with him.
But this child was still a piece of his Elizabeth… he had to try, didn’t he? He had to try, for the woman this little parasite had killed.
13. Pictures (FMA - royai) Going to be part 3 of the Not-So-Secret Series
Riza didn’t have a lot of pictures from when she was a child.
In fact, she only had three.
One was of her mother, father, and herself- she couldn’t have been more than a year old. It was framed, and in a box in her closet, in a spot where it was easy to find. Another was of her alone as a baby, all rosy cheeked with wide eyes. The final was taken right before her mother had fallen ill. She had a side braid that matched her mother’s hair, and a bright smile as both of them wore crowns made of flowers, with small patches of dirt on their dresses.
Riza decided that she didn’t want that for her son. He needed pictures. He needed these memories to cherish.
14. Say No to This (FMA - royai) Going to be a part of the In the eye of a hurricane - Hamilton based works Series, and a sort of prequel to the Not-So-Secret Series
Riza awoke to a sharp, persistent pain, and grimaced as she moved. Her back burned when she turned her head to find Major Roy Mustang asleep in the chair next to her bed. She hissed as she attempted to push herself up, waking Roy in the process.
“Wait, I can help, what do you need-” his voice was scratchy with sleep, but he almost jumped out of his seat to help her.
“Sorry for waking you,” she answered quietly. It was simultaneously sweet and frustrating to have him doting on her, but she had to admit it was nice in a strange way.
15. 365 Times Roy Proposed, and 1 Time Riza Said Yes (FMA - royai)
1915
April 18 - Day after Promised Day
Late at night, when the only sounds Roy heard were faint footsteps outside the hospital room door, and the soft, irregular breathing of his Lieutenant- his Hawkeye… his-
“Riza…” he whispered. The breathing stilled for a moment. “Are you awake?”
“...yes.” She was quiet for a moment. “Are you okay? Did you need me to help you with anything?”
“No, I… I can’t see you. Can you-” he sighed, frustrated. “Nevermind. I’m sorry I woke you.”
“You didn’t wake me… I couldn’t sleep.”
WHEW THAT WAS A LOT.
In conclusion: I like writing my OTPs with kids when I’m not hurting them. It’s all or nothing I suppose!
Anyway, uhhhhh gonna tag @musing-and-music, @by-nina and @klainelynch if y’all want to do this.
