Things I’ve Learned by Playing GW2 WvW
I’ve been playing World vs World in order to obtain the Warclaw mount and I know I usually use this blog for roleplaying, but I want to voice some things that are interesting to me as a PvE player.
Commanders may or may not be reliable
I joined a small squad with a Commander that was “teaching” us but only used the /say chat. They also ran ahead without half of their 6 person squad so using /say in this situation was useless. Half of their messages in chat were also unreadable aka ridden with spelling errors from hasty writing.
I also joined a Commander with a large group attempting to take a keep and one specific tower. We would just be met with an opposing group that would destroy us and the Commander (and some of their posse) would just run away instead of pushing forward. Few would’ve survived the battle, but it would’ve been enough to take the areas.
Though one time I found the golden Commander in which we took several towers, camps, and even a couple keeps throughout the skirmish.
Roaming is fun! But only for people who know what they’re doing
When I wanted a change of pace sometimes I would go off the beaten path and explore the map and join with a couple people to take camps or ruins. If I saw just one other person then I would have to run away. I couldn’t face a single person without getting killed, especially as a Herald.
TeamSpeak???
I can only assume this is what that one Commander meant by “TS”. I’m shocked that people still use TeamSpeak. Though even if they used Discord, I probably wouldn’t join it since I’m only doing WvW temporarily at this point to get the Warclaw.
Said Commander got mad that some people weren’t using it but was also probably aware that there were plenty of PvEers working on getting the Warclaw. That Commander did not get a tip from me.
The most successful attacks I have been part of has lots of communication in chat. Even if there was a TeamSpeak or Discord I did not know of, expressing what is actually being done in chat is invaluable and Commanders should know this.
Servers matter - and I’m disappointed with mine.
Long story short, I was originally on Tarnished Coast and my guild leader (which, at the time I thought I would be with this guild for a while. I have since discovered this guild is not to my liking) told me to join Northern Shiverpeaks.
A server change does not come cheaply and I’m certainly going to pay for it. My friends play on TC, which is a full server, and will take 1500 or so gems to switch back.
Might add to this as I discover more things, but overall a;lsoiashf;ajsfe I love and hate WvW. I don’t know if I’ll stick with it.
