♦ What’s your favorite thing about RP, generally?
How everyone puts so much effort and thought into their characters and their plots. It’s really kinda magical, taking a step back and really thinking about how even just the server is thousands of people all playing thousands of other people with complicated backstories and relations and stuff.
♚ Have you ever made any lasting friends through RP?
Definitely. There’s some people on my btag that I’ve known for five years or so by now. Almost all of my closest friendships have been made through RP, too. There’s some amazing people out there and I’m glad I’ve bumped into ‘em.
✮ Do you think you’ve improved as a writer through roleplaying?
Absolutely yes, especially by DMing. DMing events is storytelling but the characters have wills of their own so you have to improvise and be open to radical change. That’s absolutely improved my writing ability.
☄ Has roleplay positively affected your life in some ways?
So, so much. There are times and places I’m not sure I would’ve gotten through at all, or not nearly as well, if I hadn’t had the friends I’d made through RP. The sheer amount of support I’ve had from guildies especially has been incredible, especially on the lgbt side of things. I really don’t know if I’d have been out as trans IRL if it wasn’t for the ceaseless support and like...unquestioning acceptance from the guild.
☼ Have you learned any new skills from being involved in RP (coding, editing, making GIFs, etc)?
Guild running, event running, figuring out the most efficient style of DMing that works for me. How to account for like twenty other people’s schedules. Pacing in events, making sure things don’t rush or drag on. How to fix things if something is dragging on. Nothing, you know, actually useful IRL but absolutely useful in RP stuff.
