holy vines
Vine House guest house.
3 of my housemates are july babies (4th, 4th, and 7th) and apparently we’re having a big party for them next saturday?
which is fine but i feel kinda shitty about it bc we kind of already celebrated a bit, and this is like. two weeks after?
and also my birthday is literally like 3 days after people go home / move into fall semester housing, so nobody’s gonna be here and that didn’t really bother me until now.
like i don’t care about not having my birthday be a big deal, but i just feel left out.
esp since the facebook event offers to include other july babies too, so like it’s a celebration for all of them, and i’m august, so i don’t count.
my house (mostly [k tag]) keeps doing this thing where with literally every show it’s like “which character are you?”
and like it only bugged me a little at first but it keeps happening and like. my issues with it are:
there’s usually not a character that i feel is me. i can relate to characters, but i’ve only really once had the experience of “this is me” to any extent
if there isn’t an obvious choice, they’ll try to force it. they’ll find the one that you’re “most like,” and that’s “you” even if you’re not that alike at all
often that character is not the one i relate to most, because i tend to relate to characters more based on experiences, relationships, and my own feelings about them, rather than personality.
people will argue with you about it. it’s not about who i relate to, who i feel like i share experiences with, it’s about who they think looks like me.
for example:
[k tag] has been watching a:tla and korra.
across those shows, i would say the characters i relate to most/like the best are katara, ty lee, ikki, and jinora.
katara because she was my childhood fave, and has the whole responsibility/grew up too fast thing.
ty lee because she was emotionally neglected as a child, is highly dependent on one person, and constantly keeps a happy face on because that’s what she’s supposed to do.
ikki because she’s got problems with her siblings, she’s not taken as seriously, and in season 4 is basically playing the mediator of the group all the time.
i relate to jinora because she’s the mature, bookish, quiet one.
of those four, i relate to her the least.
when asked “who are you?” i said the character i related to the most was ikki, and they told me i didn’t seem like her, i was jinora instead
like it’s supposed to be harmless fun, but it feels like they’re telling me who i can and can’t relate to. and since i tend to relate to characters based on things most people wouldn’t know by looking, it’s really fucking invalidating.
my housemates and i are all watching this one anime together over the summer, but i Can’t watch things in large groups especially since they talk a lot during
so our solution is they get together downstairs and watch on the tv, while i sit upstairs in my room and alternate between watching episodes on 1.5x speed and scrolling through tumblr / other distractions, and it’s a win-win
I would keep the house full of vines. I mean as long as they don't try to kill me. It's pretty.
