{ Gluttony }
The first time they visited the Fire Nation was when Korra was fourteen. She was beginning her training with fire, and P’li insisted that she learn in a place where fire was not feared. But Korra wasn’t scared of fire; the element excited her. It was alive — it breathed and danced and Korra loved the feeling of it in her palm.
She was more hesitant on the food of the Fire Nation, never really being one for spice and fire in that way. It had been days since she had last eaten — it wasn’t everyday that they could come across food, however, that day Ghazan had scored Komodo Rhino meat, bragging about how they were going to have enough sausage to last them the rest of the week.
Korra was instantly turned off about the idea of eating rhino meat, but once he had it sizzling over their open campfire, the smell and Korra’s rumbling stomach caused her to cave. She filled her dish with four sausages.
And she couldn’t have been more glad she had — the taste that flooded her mouth was unlike any other. The sausage was was dripping in its natural greases, seeping with a smoky flavor from the fire. And it didn’t have the fiery kick that Korra was afraid of. She finished her four in under ten minutes — P’li had told her to pace herself, that she would get a stomach ache for eating too much too fast, but Korra’s empty stomach was crying for more.
She ate another two before she felt like she was full. It was the best meal she had eaten in her life. Ghazan joked with her that it was because he cooked the meat, something that was usually done by Ming Hua. Korra agreed with him.
Whenever she eats Komodo Rhino sausage, she has Ghaz roast it for her.
