Part Two:
The group of drunk teenagers trailed into the house, some stopping at the couch but most going to their rooms. Y/n took a seat on a free couch and scrolled through her phone for a while, but her ears picked up on the teacher's conversation once more.
"Well, that was a fucking disaster." One teacher said to another as they gathered around the island in the kitchen. After the painful tour of the church, the students ended up going to dinner in the clothes they had on. It took the teachers an extra hour to drag the students around because of their drunk and disorderly behaviour, so by the time it was finished they were late for dinner and didn't have time to change.
There wasn't much interesting material that y/n picked up from them so soon enough she trailed to her bedroom to get ready for a good nights sleep. First, she took her makeup off and brushed her hair, then stepped out of her clothes and stopped for a moment to admire her body in the mirror before her.
The black bikini she had on was one that she had hated at one time in her life. It was clothing that showed off every part of her except her most private areas; now she was in a stage of her life where she had learned to love those parts of herself and it was easy for her to stare at them. She was finally able to admire them for their beauty. So she stood facing herself in the mirror, slowly trailing her hands over those areas, the ones with the small white stretch marks that reminded her of her past.
She ran her fingers over the marks on her sides, then over the ones that lined her lower stomach. Her eyes flicked up to the ones on her breasts, and then to the ones on her inner arms. She smiled as she did this and made sure to remind herself of how much she loved them, how much she loved herself. After a while she was filled with a warm feeling of appreciation, thanking her body for looking after her all of these years and thinking briefly about the hard times it had gotten her through. But this didn't make her sad, she smiled even more as she thought back.
Once she was finished changing into her pyjamas she exited the bathroom and saw a small water bottle and chocolate bar on her bed. Assuming it was from a teacher she ate it and had a few sips of water, then exited her room and wandered into the kitchen again. She grabbed a glass and some ice from the freezer, then trailed back towards her bedroom.
As she looked around the room she saw most of the students had retired to their rooms, then began to giggle lightly as the one boy who was left in the lounge alone, drunkenly tried to eat the same chocolate she had before.
Once she was back in her room y/n sat on her bed for a while, staring out of the panoramic windows that lined the wall in front of her. The view of the beach in the distance and the pool a little closer was beautiful, everything for miles was lit up by the moonlight and the reflection it had on the water took her breath away.
She grabbed her favourite book from her bag and wandered towards them, opening them completely to let fresh air in. It was still warm as she took a seat on the floor, not wanting to sit on the cold tiles that lined the outside; she stayed in place on the warmer wood that was inside of her room. As she was looking out across the sea, listening to the waves softly crashing in the distance and letting the warm air kiss her skin softly, she let her eyes close for a few moments; leaning her head back as she scraped her hair away from her face and tied it back.
That's when she heard a soft splashing sound begin, much closer than the distant sound of the sea. Her eyes opened softly and she scanned around in the dark, trying to see where the noise was coming from with just the dim purple lights that were in the pool to help her.
As the splashing got louder, she took a step outside to see if some of her classmates were taking a late-night swim, but she was met with somebody else.
A stranger.
A young man was swimming gently in the pool, keeping to the left side and not crossing past her bedroom. She watched him for a moment, admiring his tattooed arms as they came up out of the water, watching as his skin glistened in the moonlight from being wet. He stopped at his end of the pool, lifting his arms up and holding himself at the wall for a moment. Then slowly, he turned in her direction and stretched his arms out either side of him, breathing deeply while he caught his breath.
He locked eyes with y/n and her cheeks immediately warmed, she turned to the side and tried to play off that she wasn't staring but he chuckled quietly to himself, confirming that he saw.
Embarrassed from being caught, she didn't say anything to the guy; she turned away immediately and began walking back into her room but his voice quickly picked up from behind her.
"Don't let me scare you away." He spoke in an amused tone, with the volume low but in a way that y/n could almost hear the smirk he had on his face. Failing to hold back her natural sarcasm, she snapped back around to face him and tilted her head slightly before she replied.
"You didn't." She attested before adding on another comment. "I was just going to sit out here and read for a while." She held her book up from her side so that he could see it, silently insinuating that he was slow for not spotting it. He held his hands up in defence like he wanted to say 'don't let me stop you, but he stayed silent.
Instead of speaking he huffed quietly to himself and continued on with his swimming, splashing louder than before like he was trying to purposefully disturb her. Instead of becoming irritated at the noise, he was making, y/n simply stared down the page of her book; forcing herself to read the words and become engulfed in the story.
After a few moments of pressing her eyes into the words on the page before her, it became easier for her to focus and the story began engulfing her. Although it was a familiar one, it still entertained her endlessly and was definitely her favourite book of all time. Just as she reached halfway down the page, when the fight scene she was reading began playing in her mind, a loud splash from the neighbours end of the pool dragged her out of the story and caused her eyes to flick up from the page again.
She peered over the book, barely peeking out from behind it; noticing that the neighbour had now gotten out of the pool and was walking towards the hot tub that was on his end, she watched him carefully. Again, she noticed his arms that had tattoos scattered across them but her eyes locked onto his back this time; a tattoo of a man with large wings spread across his shoulder blades.
As he walked away from the pool she admired the way his muscles flexed underneath it, the ink moving slightly every time his back tensed; when he stepped up onto the hot-tubs edge and then slowly lowered himself into it, his legs flexed and she made sure to flick her eyes across his whole body, soaking him up with her eyes.
Still hiding behind her book, she crossed her legs and continued quietly admiring him. His hair was long and dark, perhaps it was appearing longer from being wet but it looked good; especially with the few curls he had framing his face, some stuck to his skin and drenched with pool water.
Now chewing on her lip a little, her eyes flicked down from his hair to his lips. They were full and pink, much like his cheeks from the steam that was rising out of the small hot tub, which his large frame was almost filling. While she was busy admiring him, she didn't notice that he was watching her as well. He could well and truly see her staring him down but didn't turn his attention away, he stared right back.
When she got curious about the colour of his eyes and flicked her own up, they unexpectedly met and her cheeks flushed pink again. She didn't dare speak up and quickly withdrew her gaze from him, pulling her thumb into her mouth and chewing nervously on her thumb, as she could feel his gaze on her now.
Then he spoke again.
"If you're gonna stare me down like that, at least come a little closer." Her eyes shot up and met his, where she spotted a lazy smirk on his lips. She quickly cussed under her breath and stood up from the sunbed that she had been sitting on, marching off into her room with a huff.
Thinking that she had run off, the man laughed to himself and thought about how easily he had irritated her; silently amused by the situation and warm in the toasty water, he leant his head back and stretched his arms out again.
He let his eyes close for a few moments as he relaxed, basking in the heat and silence that surrounded him. That was until a small splash erupted in front of him and his eyes shot open; spotting the young woman sitting across from him in the water, with her arms crossed and an irritated expression on her face.
