Next year it will be 2020. If you are like us, you might be inclined to ring in the new decade with all the glamour and exuberance of the 1920’s. You could start with your dishware, and a platter like this one made in 1928. That’s when American life was at the peak of excitement. Jazz clubs ruled the night scene, alcohol was served in teacups, dancing was the preferred method of exercise and most importantly, women were defining life on their own terms. One year after this platter was made, the Great Depression began, and all that exhilarating joy suddenly seemed and felt like a faraway dream. Luckily, this dish stayed around to remind us of those frenzied and feverish days when the whole point of living was to begin each day and end each night in celebration. Cheers to all the big merrymakers who roared in revelry around this big dish 91 years ago. While the roses are pastel stunners, it’s the blue forget-me-nots that the plates themselves would like you to focus on. You see the plates suffer from a little anxiety. They worry that they will be forgotten to history... passed over, cast aside, put away, left behind. But we reassure them all the time. One day soon they will find their perfect home. A happy place where they will continue to bloom forever and ever. And there will be mountains of cake and seas of smiles and life will be sweet for this two forever forward.
