Hey Carmen I was looking up the definition of queer today. And i kept finding that it used to be a deragatory word but many lbgt people have reclaimed it. But i still do not understand what it means when someone says that they identify is queer. Sorry but can you please help me understand? One of my friends is queer and she said it is summed up as anything that is not straight.

Well, I'm not 100% educated on the matter but your friend is pretty much right and you're also correct - queer has been reclaimed and and people still use it as an umbrella term.
She's right in that it's anything not straight but it can also include not cisgendered (aka not the gender you were assigned/designated at birth)
Basically Queer = sexual (homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, asexual, demisexual etc etc) and gender (transgendered boy, transgendered girl, nonbinary, demigirl, demiboy) minorities. this can also include the romantic minorities for those who do not experience sexual attraction (aromantic, biromantic, panromantic,)
