VinylMax Windows Is Celebrating Two Years of Safe Days!
Hamilton, OH - September 6, 2012 - Vinylmax Windows, one of Window & Door Magazine's Top 100Window Manufacturers, has operated for two years without a lost work time accident. This represents more than 700 days and 600,000 man-hours worked by more than 200 employees since September 5, 2010. The company's previous safety streak stretched 255 days. Vinylmax has achieved progressively impressive safety ratings since its shift to a safety focus in 2005. Dave Doerger, co-owner and Vice President of Manufacturing notes, "With a labor intensive operation that includes handling thousands of pieces of glass per day, we knew that the only way to preserve and protect our employees would involve a major cultural change." That change to 'Safety First' involved working hand in hand with the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation and OSHA-On-Site professionals. Through a series of voluntary audits and continual employee training sessions, Vinylmax revamped its attitude and policies to reflect a 'Do What's Right' safety philosophy. These efforts have resulted in recognition from Greater Hamilton Safety Council with its 2011 Officer's Award for Best Industrial Safety Record. The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation recognized Vinylmax for 100% Achievement in preventing accidents and injuries in the workplace. "In hindsight, doing the right thing wasn't expensive at all. We have an excellent pool of employees who have the confidence to lead their co-workers in safe operations. The employees are the true crusaders who have made our safety culture automatic," comments Mark Nolte, assistant plant manager. Vinylmax employees have been rewarded for safety at several important milestones. Every 100 days has resulted in items like safety slogan t-shirts and company luncheons. Vinylmax president Laura Doerger-Roberts is delighted with her company's safety record. "Safety is at the top of our priority list. It is integral to everything we do. Since our employees have embraced that commitment to a safe workplace, it gives our management team the freedom to focus on our other core philosophies, like high quality and quick delivery." Vinylmax manufactures hundreds of thousands of custom replacement windows each year, most manufactured within a tight three day lead time. Vinylmax employees are celebrating with a company-wide steak fry on September 6th. What lies in the future? "It's exciting. Eight Hundred days is right around the corner and no one wants to be the one to end the streak," muses Doerger-Roberts.
