At yesterday’s livestream a request was made to hear the theme from “The Godfather”. Here it is - the main theme or Godfather waltz by Nino Rita (1911-1979). Rota was an Italian composer, conductor, pianist and academic best known for many iconic film scores. He composed for two of Franco Zeffirelli’s Shakespeare film adaptations as well as for Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather Trilogy among many other notable contributions to film music. The American Film Institute ranked Rota’s Godfather score #5 on their list of the greatest film scores. I think this sounds great on viola! A stunningly beautiful tribute Capriccio by Henri Vieuxtemps (1820- 1881), to violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini (1782- 1840). Played by Marc Sabbah on the viola. The sound is exquisite.

I have listened to Isaac Albeniz since childhood, but embarrassingly only know 1 or 2 of his works. So I was pleased to hear these Asturia’s for solo viola, played by the excellent Marco Miscagna.
