Don’t Even Try It || {Erin & OPEN}
A cool breeze from the open window had Erin shuffling further back into her little corner of the cell, the rough blanket from her cot covering her legs that were pulled up to her chest. The other witches that shared her cell were gone for the day - to work, they had said. She had barely payed them any mind since her initial melt down after they had tried to calmly inform her of her new life as a slave. She had gone off, the sedation given to her initially wearing off to the point she was able to break the lock on the cell door and nearly strangle one of the guards in her early efforts of escape. She managed to make it outside before three guards took her down, hauling her back into her cell kicking and screaming at them until they gave her a large enough sedative that she passed out.
Since then, she had curled up in the corner after waking up and stayed like that, refusing to meet anyone’s gaze and not daring to touch the food the guards brought to her. The last fact didn’t go unnoticed and if a couple bruises showed up on her skin once in awhile, well, no one could do anything about it without evidence. The first few times it had happened, the other witches and even a couple of the other slaves in the cells next to her own had tried to get her to open up and talk to them, but to no use. She was a cathedral of deadbolts, stubbornly keeping to herself and turning down any offer of help with a steely look.
The sound of heavy foot falls alerted her to a guard approaching her cell and subconsciously, she curled up into a tighter ball, her muscles tensing. She didn’t even look at the man as he opened the cell door and picked up the full tray of food on the ground, closing the door with a rattle behind him, the hinges on the cell door groaning their protest. His footsteps receded back the way he came and she relaxed again, her gaze fixed on the little glimpse of the outside world that she had.
Raised voices coming from the direction the guard had disappeared had her turning her head towards the noise. Even the other slaves present in other cells seemed startled by the sudden sound. The shouts quieted down, replaced by rapid footsteps across the floor. Erin quickly turned her gaze away and hunkered down in an attempt to hide as someone approached and stopped right in front of her cell. She didn’t know what was going on but she had a bad feeling that the issue was with her if the person outside her cell was anything to go by.
