Even Brooks is getting in on the fun!
Also~ Violet is literally the cutest! I miss having her around the commune! We’ll have to visit her and her family soon! (also I plan on putting her kids up on the gallery eventually, so keep an eye out for the Arlington Family!)
Leela experiences many problems as a ghost, but one specific one is that Julie cannot see her and does not know what she looks like. And that’s not a real problem when all the guys are calling her Leela. Until Luke calls her by her nickname one day: La La.
And Julie, having no mental image of Leela to compare this to, just says: “You nicknamed your best friend after the yellow Teletubby?”
To which the boys and Leela all say: “Excuse me, what is a Teletubby?” And Julie has to show them, to Leela’s horror. She’s not even the purple one!!!! And then she has to live (ha) with the knowledge that when she’s standing next to the boys it looks like this:
But what Julie is picturing mentally is closer to this monstrosity:
and that causes her immense mental stress.
tagging @onthepageoftears because of reasons.
me: I will write a story of unrequited love
*one page into the document*
leela: *flirts*
luke: *flirts*
me: ........................................oops
based on the teletubbies post i would say i would simply ✨pass away✨ if i was leela but uh i think it’s a lil late for that
Omgggggg but true. Like Julie eventually finds out what Leela looks like from old pictures, but Teletubbies didn’t come out until 1997, so imagine Leela’s surprise to hear that her nickname no longer evokes the thought of singing to music, but to.........
yeah she dies all over again. 😂
for the soft oc asks 🌹, 🍂, and 💫with Leela??? 👀(you know I had to)
🌹 Where in the world does your OC feel most at home? Is there any reason why? If it’s not the place they were born, where were they born? Is there a certain somebody that makes them feel at home where ever they may be? What does home mean to them?
How did you KNOW I was dying to answer this one for Leela? Okay, look, I know it’s cliche to say, but Leela’s home is the studio. It’s the place where she’s felt the safest and most comfortable all her life (and afterlife.) Her childhood house hasn’t felt like home since she was nine, when things started getting bad with her parents. She would stay with Luke, but even with the Pattersons, there was always that dread that sooner or later, Mitch and Emily would drive her back to her house.
But the studio is the home that she built with Luke. They stayed up late and watched movies. They put up posters and argued about who got to use the shower first. They paid rent and went grocery shopping - even if that meant eating microwave mac and cheese and warm soda. They say they ran away from home, but for Leela, she ran away to find the only home she’s ever known. And that’s always been with Luke.
🍂 Does your OC enjoy hugs? What do they do as a show of affection for: their friends, their family, their significant other(s) or for strangers? Over all what are they like with receiving affection from others?
Leela loves to be hugged, but will very rarely initiate. It takes her a long time to feel comfortable showing affection to others, because she wrestles with the desire to feel physical affection and her innate fear of seeming clingy. She would never be the person to initiate physical contact. She tend to let other people set and push boundaries and just mirror them. That being said, after years of knowing each other, she’s comfortable with the band. They trade slaps and pokes and cheek kisses pretty freely. But the boys all know that even when Leela wants to be hugged, she won’t ask.
💫What is your favourite fact about this character and why?
Oh man, I mean I’ve done a lot of thinking about Leela lately, so there’s a lot of fun facts I’m learning about her myself. I think one of my favorite things about her, which is actually kind of important, is that she’s trying to teach herself piano. Music doesn’t come naturally to her - Words? Fine. Images? Sure. Numbers? You got it. But she doesn’t know how to compose or will songs and tunes into existence, or match a note, or play a song. But she’s been trying, for years, because it’s the language that everyone she loves speaks. Luke, Reggie, Alex, Bobby, and later even Julie and Flynn - they all express the things they can’t say in song. And that’s something Leela’s really jealous of, as someone who has many things to say and no way to say them. So it takes her years, but she’s determined to learn so she can understand her friends and family.
I know no one is online but just know...know that I just spent 5 hours on the cover for the Julie and the Phantoms story that I am...absolutely not writing...and it looks v good...
What about her connection to Bobby? As he was a part of the original band too
This is super true! I’m still working on her individual relationships with all of the boys, but the good news is that about 50% of Violet Fields is flashbacks, so there’s plenty of material to explore!
Bobby has always been the individualist of the group. He loves the guys to death (ba dum tst) but he has the kind of confidence and drive that can’t be shaken by peer pressure or family. (We don’t know a bunch about teen Bobby yet from canon, so I’m making my way as we go with a lot of this.) His eating habits, his willingness to miss out on hot dogs with the guys, and as far as I’m concerned he’s the only one with a driver’s license lol.
Leela is very much the opposite in that she’s always been very dependent on others. Some days she feels like a ghost before she dies, because she feels like she exists only in relation to other people and what she can offer them.
Bobby is the one who really encourages her to make a stand for herself and decide what she wants out of life, outside of the band. She could get her GED, get serious about her photography, go for a business degree - she just has to decide who she is. He always offers to help - provided she plays wingman for him from time to time. Leela’s pretended to be his younger sister more than once so Bobby could get a girl’s phone number.
Of course, that’s before the Orpheum. Leela doesn’t die with the guys, but Bobby left her behind anyway. And I imagine one thing that plagues him as he makes the transition from Bobby to Trevor as an adult is that he abandoned her despite knowing how vulnerable she was. I don’t think Bobby was ready for that kind of commitment and emotional support, because Leela would undoubtedly have needed it. That’s something I’m interested to think about when JatP comes out with Season 2 and we learn a bit more about him.
