So apparently Lena's been living with Violet since Friendship Hates Magic and… well for a moment I felt kinda disappointed she wasn't living at the mansion, and I still kinda am, but then I realized there's also a lot of potential here. Most importantly: what in the world are Violet's dads like?
Imagine this, your daughter goes to the library to research something. When she comes back she mentions a new friend and a sleepover that same night, at the McDuck mansion of all places. So you help her bake a pie for her new friend in the short time there is before the sleepover. At this point you're a bit confused and concerned because it's McDuck mansion and you've seen the news, but new friends are new friends. Surely nothing dangerous will happen.
And then Violet comes home the next day.
There's a teenager with her.
This is not one of the people you've seen on the news.
But okay, she's probably another friend who was also having a sleepover. It's fine. So, now you just need to ask Violet to explain who this is and if she's here for another sleepover.
Of course, nothing could prepare any parent for the answer Violet gives. Not one to sugarcoat or lie, Violet is very clear about what happened.
“You could say she's here for a sleepover, albeit a very long one. This is my friend Lena, she's a shadow and she'll stay here a while so I can observe her for any magical anomalies. She just got back from the shadow realm and her physical form is very new, so it's unclear what that might mean for her.”
Right. Of course. A sentient shadow who is a teenager and needs to stay for a while because her magic can go haywire. You sent your daughter to a sleepover with a new friend and when she comes back she brings along someone who clearly doesn't have a home and really what other option do you have than to adopt her?
You're not sure how you're going to explain to your husband that you brought one daughter to a sleepover, and got two daughters back. You're also not sure how to explain that your new daughter is a shadow who might mess up a couple of things with magic. You're sure he'll understand anyways.
You both know what Violet's like, especially since the shadow war, and if you're honest, it's a surprise it took this long for her to bring home a magically created person.
Later, when your husband is home and you and Violet are talking him through the situation, Violet adds a couple of things that she says Lena should never be allowed to hear. Above all else, she says, it's important to remember that even if Lena's magic is dangerous at times, Lena herself would put her life on the line to save someone without a second thought.
You look at your husband, and if he wasn't convinced to let Lena stay before, now you're sure he's already planning how to introduce her to the rest of the family, and how many new photo's need to be made, and which ones should be taken from the walls to make space for the new ones that include Lena, and so many more things.
