Popping in to say I know witherlings had a character named “esk” before it was turned into the species (and under a previous username), so is that what they’re referring to? Otherwise I hope its just a coincidence of names if its someone else.

Omg PLEASE DO THE THING. If you have any tips on what each setting does in brushes (or most of them) that would be great akdh but everything you listed too ;o; and I say the first part because it gets confusing with settings with similar names and not knowing what they change

aahh! ok no problem!! I’ll probably make the videos so that each explain different sets of things, brushes may be even two. and yeah I can explain what each setting does that’s no problem!! It’s what I would’ve probably done anyways.

and if the videos are still a bit confusing one can always request another video like +1 extra for other stuff (If you have problems with the program but it depends on how many demands there are ; w ; )

Do you actually have any tips on lsyer usage since you bring that up? Something I struggle with is wanting to be sure if theres any major errors I can go back and fix without muddling everything together but I also dont want 5002398 layers to sort through :c

I can try! It’s a tricky balance of grouping as many things together as possible, while still leaving things separate for effects, layering, and edits. 

1. At the very least (for major illustrations and comics), I have my layers set up like this (above). I separate characters and background things on their own layers as flats, and clip shadows above them. Characters are always on top so I can paint the background behind them. Sometimes I separate the flats even more if specific things in the background need special attention.

2. Here’s a final Lumberjanes page. I try to keep everything separate and on top of the flats (always keep gradients on a separate layer for example). With this set up I can quickly and easily go in and edit shadows, effects, colors etc, without having to recolor/paint. (final page below)

I think the only thing I didn’t do (but normally would) was put the background shadows (painted snow and highlights on trees) on a separate layer (I painted straight on the flats). Thankfully these worked out and I didn’t have to go back and edit ^^;;

I hope that makes sense? 

How many layers to use and how to use them really depends on your style and illustration (everyone uses layers differently!) so experimenting and moving out of your comfort zone will help a lot! :)

I don’t know how to put this dang thing under a read more. Tumblr, your new functions really suck. Like, a lot.
