Adventure’s In The Candy Store
Prompt - Dad’s au part 2! Check the au out on @vipeejunior7‘s blog! What happens when Aaron brings the kids to a candy store?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aaron wondered how the kids had talked him into this. They had some super power that when they all did puppy eyes at the same time, he can’t say no to them. This was why they were all holding hands and walking towards the candy store near their apartment.
Daniel was on Aaron’s shoulders, pulling slightly on his hair and ears. Dottie and Blaze were playing tag in front of the group, laughing and making sure not to run too far, or else Aaron would bring out his ‘Dad attitude’ or what the kids call it, ‘Dadittude’ Maria and Rylan were holding onto either one of Aaron’s hands, making face’s at each other from either side of their father.
They all walked, joking and laughing, Daniel commented on all of the pretty flowers he saw as they walked, and Maria almost scared a kid walking by when she yelled at Blaze for running into her.
After what seemed like an hour of walking - but in reality was only 20 minutes - the family saw the bright neon sign of their favourite candy store. Aaron saw the kids’ eyes light up and Maria and Rylan let go of Aaron’s hands and ran with Dottie and Blaze inside the store.
“Don’t do anything until I’m inside!” Aaron called out, but it was no use. They were already inside the shop, and Aaron was left groaning to himself, wondering what they were going to do this time.
It seemed as if they could never go anywhere without causing trouble. Like the time they wen’t to the bakery. Let’s just say, Aaron ended up buying 26 loaves of bread that day.
But today was an exception, normally Aaron does the shopping alone, but he had agreed to taking the kids out for a treat because Blaze had gotten an 100 on his math test, and he couldn’t get only Blaze a treat because that would be favouritism, and Aaron is a good dad.
As he pushed open the door, Aaron let out a sigh. He saw Maria looking at all the chocolate bars, trying to reach one of the higher up ones, but being to short to reach. Rylan was admiring the gummies in different containers along the wall, trying to reach inside one of the containers to grab some candy, but he couldn’t get the lid off. The thing that worried Aaron most was that Dottie and Blaze were nowhere to be seen.
Aaron set Daniel down on the floor and told him to go with Maria and Rylan while he went and found Blaze and Dottie. Daniel nodded and ran off, singing, “Candy here! Candy there! I love candy everywhere!”
Aaron chuckled then set off to find where the two eldest children had run off too.
After searching a few aisles filled with various sweets and chocolate, he found them each holding a giant lollipop, battling with them as if they were swords.
“Blaze! Dottie! What are you doing?” Aaron almost shouted, running over to them.
“Oh! Dad’s here! Maybe he can settle this,” Dottie said, lowering her cracked lollipop. “I wanted to get lollipops, but Blaze wanted cupcakes. So then I said that lollipops were better and started hitting him with one, then he grabbed one and started to hit me back, and it turned into a sword fight. Which one do you think is better, cupcakes or lollipops?”
Aaron was speechless. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing or hearing. Right before he was about to say something, he heard a loud crash from where he had last seen Rylan. Aaron groaned and looked at Dottie and Blaze, “You two, come with me. And both are equally good, so don’t fight about it anymore. And don’t run off again, I need to be able to see you at all times! Am I clear?”
“Yeah dad,” Dottie said, looking at her feet.
“Sorry Dad,” Blaze whispered, holding his tail nervously.
“Alright, come with me,” Aaron said walking towards the area he heard the crash come from.
As soon as he saw Rylan, Maria and Daniel, it felt like he let out his 100th groan in the last 15 minutes. He saw the 3 kids, staring at a broken glass jar on the floor, candy on the ground around their feet.
“Papa!” Daniel shouted, running over to him. He held out one of the candies from the ground, “For you papa!”
Aaron couldn’t help but smile, “Thanks little man, but we have to pay for that.... And those,” he said, motioning to the broken jar.
“Oh, Rylan and Maria were gonna go and try to find the gum they really like, but Maria’s tail accidentally knocked the jar over! There are a lot of candies in it! I guess that there’s at least 7!” Aaron smiled and placed Daniel back on the ground, “That’s great Daniel, I’m sure there are at least 7 candies,” he chcuckled, walking over to the pair of werewolves who were looking rather guilty.
“Maria did it!” Rylan said as Aaron walked over.
“Snitch! It was an accident anyways, Dad isn’t gonna be mad because it wasn’t on purpose,” she shouted. They started bickering back and forth before Aaron cleared his throat, grabbing both of their attentions.
“I’m not angry guys, so you two just stand away from the broken glass while I go get someone-”
He was cut off before he could finish his sentence by an unknown voice, “Hello sir! How can I help you toda-” The voice trailed off, staring at the scene before him. Two kids were standing around a broken jar of candy, a third kid was sitting on the floor, eating the spilt candy, and off to the side were two more children, fighting with two of their lollipops. He stared in disbelief before asking, “Uhh, are you gonna be buying all of that?”
Aaron sighed, pulling out his wallet. “I guess I’m going to have to aren’t I?”
3 conversations with the manager, and one payment of $35.69 later, Aaron and the kids walked out, Blaze and Dottie both licking some a slightly damaged lollipop each, and the other 3 kids sharing a bag filled with the candies that had been spilt on the floor. Aaron shook his head and wondered how this had happened, but didn’t question it any further as they all walked back to the apartment, content with the candy they had gotten.
Blaze looked at the kids in front of him, all seated on the carpet. Once he stopped talking, they all started clapping.
Blaze smiled and said proudly, “And those were my families adventure’s at the candy store!”
