Gurnaz wasn’t quite sure she knew what she was doing right now. There were a lot of emotions rushing through her at this very moment. Anger at her brother, frustration at his friends, worry for her future bhabi, but the one thing that seemed to outdo every other emotion was the deep-rooted affection she felt for Viraj right now. He was trying to make amends with people that wanted no part in any sort of civility with him whatsoever. He was really trying to prove that he wasn’t the same person they’d met all those years ago… Could it be that he was doing this for her? She had to see him. She had to hear it from him. More than that, she wanted to see him. It had been months since they called it quits, but not a day went by that she didn’t wish she could see him or talk to him like she used to. The man at the front desk seemed to have forgotten who she was and she wasn't about to throw it in his face either. Just because she was desperate to see Viraj didn't mean he had to be desperate to see her too.
Oh god. What if he didn’t want to see her? What if he’d moved on? Before she lost her nerve, Gurnaz sent him a text, asking him if he was home while alerting him to the fact that she was waiting in the lobby. After that, the reply came quick, as did the phone call to the front desk. She could hear the man apologizing and letting the caller know that he'd handle it right away. Before she knew it, she was in the elevator on her way up to Viraj's flat. Thirty minutes. That's how long she would have to wait for him to get here. They were going to be the longest thirty minutes of her life.
