April 21, 2026.
1.3 million Virginia voters said YES to the redistricting referendum. 52% to 48%.
May 8, 2026.
The Virginia Supreme Court said it doesn't matter. 😔
4-3 ruling.
Why?
Because the legislature's first vote on the amendment came AFTER early voting had already started in the 2025 House elections.
40% of ballots had already been cast.
That made the vote too late under Virginia's constitution.
"This violation incurably taints the resulting referendum vote and renders it null and void."
