Thanks for doing the pre trading survey, it actually really helped me analyze my playing style especially on servers! It got me thinking about what “niche” I would likely play on a server, and which resources I would depend on others for vs which resources I would be a good source for!
I find it interesting to analyze the difference each question would have for early game playing vs late game, having farms for the resource vs personally not having specific farms but others having them. I also find it interesting that version makes a difference as well!
Ancient debris/netherite is so incredibly hard to get, especially with netherite ingots requiring 4 ancient debris and debris only spawning in max 3-veins, but it’s not that useful once you manage to get a full set, unless you’re going for spares. Coal is easy to get some of but kind of hard to get a lot of without very specific farms, but it also has alternatives for a lot of its uses. Copper is mostly just decorative (unless you use copper golems) and it’s easy to get a lot of, but it always has to be smelted unless you have a very specific farm for drowned. Diamonds are not super useful once you are established and geared (especially with armorer, toolsmith, and weapon smith villagers), which is nice because there isn’t really Diamond farms, except they duplicate armour trims and use a lot to do so. Emeralds are really easy to get late game if you have a raid farm or lots of villagers, but it can be tricky to start those and emerald ore is rare enough to be a flex. You can get heaps of gold with a gold farm, but they take so much time and resources to set up, and you most need gold in the early game for Piglin trading and golden apples. Iron is immensely useful for so many things especially auto farms, but I find iron farms finicky to set up and they break if game mode is peaceful at any point. I find it’s hard to get a lot of lapis, but it isn’t really used for much except enchanting, so people that don’t enchant much or are already enchanted might have a surplus while mid-game you’re searching for more so often. Redstone doesn’t really have good farms, but you get so much of it with fortune. You don’t really need it until you need a crazy amount though, I find I have a lot until I go to set up a sorting system! Quartz is basically just decorative, and you get quite a bit if you mine it while debris mining or getting quick exp, but so many people don’t actually collect it while nether mining and you need quite a lot of it to use for building, not to mention the costly comparators for a lot of farms.
Sorry for the wall of text, I just really like different play styles of Minecraft and I’m a hoarder :) I liked your survey!
debris actually spawns in veins of up to 5 per chunk! otherwise i don't really have much else to say
