I know everyone likes to shit on the Virtual World arc for dragging on so long, but it has that Yu-gi-oh charm of just being absurd, and I can't help but be charmed by it.

One of the villains entire motive for being a corporate hater is because Kaiba thinks pandas are the superior black and white animal, because he's a sixteen year old boy in charge of a multi-billion corporation. And now said villain has lost his body, decided to inhabit of the digital avatar of a penguin, and is dueling a teenage girl who has only dueled once in the show before for possession of her body.

Yu-gi-oh is such a good show guys.

Rewatching the original Yugioh series and watching Kaiba getting over his fear of Exodia and defeating his stepfather, Gozaburo Kaiba, is a good two episodes to rewatch!

Okay, so. TIME FOR ANOTHER NOA RANT, I’m so so sorry guys.

So, Noa’s mind was uploaded into a supercomputer, right? Well, I doubt that even a computer that powerful, especially considering the time period (it def has nothing on what Seto was making in the DsoD era, for instance) would be able to contain the entire mind of a human being, even a child, including all of their memories, their personality, preferences, AND their core…sentience or whathaveyou. Not to mention, although he was mostly stagnant and didn’t seem to age pysically, he was still learning new things, getting information off the internet (?) etc.

I think in the first place that not all of Noa made it to the digitalworld, but also that the longer he stayed there, the more of his older memories, ideals, etc. would be deleted to make room for the new ones. (I already have my own theories hcs etc about the “real Noa” vs the “digital virus copy” Noa but quick aside that the idea of his already existing files not only being deleted but being corrupted probably is. Quite unpleasent.)

Not to mention that imo the digitalworld is essentially Hell in some form (I even have made a Dante-esque layer system out of it but that’s another post), and isolation in a place like that will degrade your sanity even if you WEREN’T slowly having your human memories and all being deleted/corrupted. (oh and the thought of what happens when you fuse a consious human mind with a computer program like that is quite horrific in an “the angles cut me when I try to think” type of way, considering he’s alive and knows he’s a person but also. Very much not)

So yeah, I would have been willing to do pretty much anythig to get out of there, especially since he’d been there for I think a little under a decade already? He probably thought he’d be there forever, and he still mostly had the maturity and development of a preteen. Of course he did bad things, he was desperate and scared, and probably also under the influcence of some major file corruption (which I sorta associate with his Biblical prophet thing, there’s no way the ‘voice of god’ he hears is actually some benevolent diety but ANYWAY).

I’m sorry for how incoherent this was I’m just. Him…

In a sense, the world you experience is still a virtual one.

The Virtual System has always been capable of tricking the mind, creating the illusion of smell, touch, and any other sensation that one might expect to feel. Seto just made your virtual senses portable and mapped them over visual and auditory input from the real world. So now you’re a string of computer code piloting an android, as opposed to of a string of computer code sitting around in a metal sphere collecting dust.

It’s a very convincing android, too. You only notice the gaps in its realism in little details. Like the way water beads and slides across your hands, behaving more the way it usually does on rubber than on skin. The fact that your hair doesn’t grow. Your inability to blush, or sweat, or eat, or cry.

And you really shouldn’t miss nuisances like that anyway.

(Listen this is the bEST Noa-centric fic I have ever read and there are so, so few of them to choose from).
