Indonesia The team at IAR Indonesia work tirelessly to bring hope to suffering slow lorises that have been rescued from the illegal pet trade. Yesterday, we exposed new viral videos of slow loris pets being circulated on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, to show that we need your support now more than ever. We cannot let these videos, that fuel the trade, become popular once again. The fight to end the cruel slow loris pet trade is far from over. These distressing images were taken just last year during a confiscation of 79 slow lorises, carried out by the IAR Indonesia and BKSDA rescue team. The lorises, destined to be sold into a lifetime of abuse, had been packed inside cramped and dirty boxes, resulting in the death of four lorises and numerous health conditions for the ‘lucky’ ones to survive, including trauma, intestinal worms, and severe malnutrition. The team immediately provided the lorises with urgent medical treatment, which included feeding the lorises a special formula through a syringe. This formula is packed with essential nutrients to replenish their body and kick-start the recovery process. Ten of the slow lorises were then taken back to the rehabilitation centre to undergo further treatment and medical examinations. A specialist team of vets and keepers work 24/7 to ensure that every slow loris at the centre will one day be ready to return to freedom in a protected national park. However, those that cannot be released will be provided with a safe haven for life. The team can only provide these lorises with the love and care they need because of people like YOU.
