Upgrading to Windows 10
Earlier this month, with some trepidation, I updated my HP EliteBook 2540p from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. My machine’s processor is the Intel Core i7 L640 running at 2.13 GHz, & I have 4 GB of RAM. The upgrade occurred over several hours in the afternoon & went smoothly. I lost use of the fingerprint reader, though, since there are no drivers for the Validity Sensors Fingerprint Reader for Windows 10. This is unfortunate, because I did prefer using the fingerprint reader to login.
Some apps, like Oracle’s VirtualBox, did not run until I updated them, but all the apps I use regularly seem to be running fine so far. I don’t notice any significant speed difference, but there is definitely more RAM being used, so I am considering a RAM upgrade. Curiously, the Crucial Scan scanner tool no longer recognizes my hardware & claims it has no compatible upgrades for my system.
I like that Windows 10 has a desktop switcher built in, though its feature set is not as good as VirtuaWin, which I favor.
Right now I’m using my own local logins instead of Microsoft accounts, & I have Cortana turned off. In fact, I turned off any options I could find that gave permission to Microsoft to spy on my computer use.
