Hey, coming on here to ask if anyone here has submitted any comments about needing to add your social media on ESTA applications. There's a 60 day window and in this panic about it, I don't want us to miss out on any opportunities to stop this.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio today ordered the vetting of all visa applicants who have been to the Gaza strip since 2007, according to a diplomatic cable marked “SENSITIVE” that we obtained. The order applies not just to Palestinians but also anyone there for any period of time, including NGO workers and people there in an official or even diplomatic capacity. “To strengthen vetting procedures, effective immediately, the Visa Office requires consular sections conduct social media vetting for all visa applicants with presence in the Gaza Strip since 2007,” the cable’s summary says. (2007 is the year that Hamas gained control of the Gaza strip.) The cable goes on to say that the social media screening “includes NGO workers and those present in an official or diplomatic capacity.” [...] Some countries are exempt, however, under a waiver program. A visa is a document that allows a foreign national to enter a country for a specific purpose and duration. Since 9/11, countries have negotiated with the U.S. to be part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), except for visitors who intend to work or study in the U.S. or intend to stay for more than 90 days.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is soliciting signatures from House colleagues on a letter arguing against Israel’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program.
In the letter, which was obtained by JI, the Michigan congresswoman pushes back on ongoing talks between Israel and the Biden administration over the program, which allows foreign citizens to enter the U.S. for 90 days without applying for a visa. Israel has long sought to be included in the VWP, but has not hit the required benchmarks, such as a low visa rejection rate.
Tlaib alleged that Israel’s “discriminatory policies” make it ineligible for inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program.
“The Administration’s continued work to include Israel in the VWP is deeply troubling given that Israel appears to be, as the Institute for Middle East Understanding notes, patently ineligible due to its flagrant discrimination against Palestinian, MENA, Muslim and pro-Palestinian American citizens at its points of entry,” Tlaib wrote in a cover note to colleagues soliciting signatures for the letter, which was obtained by Jewish Insider.
Department of Homeland Security Under Secretary for Policy Rob Silvers told JI in December that the administration has “no timelines” for Israel’s admission and Israel will “have to meet all the requirements for program participation,” but said the issue is a “high priority.”
The congressional letter, addressed to Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, has been co-signed by Reps. Betty McCollum (D-MN) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), according to a memo obtained by JI. It is open for additional signatures until the close of business on Monday.

Trump is set to sign an executive order Friday that would impose a 30-day ban on entry to the U.S. for visa holders from seven Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
The executive order is widely viewed as the first step to fulfill a campaign promise to ban Muslims from immigrating to the United States.
How did Trump’s team pick those countries? It didn't: The countries were chosen during Barack Obama's presidency.
According to the draft copy of Trump's executive order, the countries are based on a bill that Obama signed into law in December 2015.
Obama signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act as part of an omnibus spending bill.
The bipartisan legislation restricted access to the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens from 38 countries who are visiting the United States for less than 90 days to enter without a visa.

This is a common article being shared amongst conservatives to delegitimize anger at the ban and to portray the reaction as irrational "liberal hysteria." It attempts to equate excluding countries from the Visa Waiver Program to an outright ban. Without really thinking through the logic, many people are hitting share and gleefully laughing at "liberal hypocrisy."
This is an example of the kind of manipulative viral media and the kind of ignorance that has largely shaped the election. This is why we're so divided.
