The atmospheric river of Van Hunks is clearly visible here between Brazil (top left) and South Africa (middle right) as a target.
The meandering distance is ~6,800 km.
It produces exceptionally heavy rain.
It is also pushed in here by a very powerful leg of the POLAR jet stream and this maximises the destructive wind, which in turn also maximised the rain intensity and reach .
We will look at an analysis later this afternoon that visually represents the moisture river in a different way.
Meanwhile? Cling (!) and be aware of high-volume rain that will drop extensively today and through tomorrow. Modelling is on the LandWater Timeline.
Drive carefully and just stay away from the ocean, especially the West Coast, unless you really know how to save your own life.
What is an atmospheric river?
An atmospheric river is a narrow passage of concentrated moisture that flows in the atmosphere.
