In 1733, General James Oglethorpe designed a grand scheme for laying out the city of Sanannah in a way that was easy to navigate and gave the citizens places to congregate in public. Oglethorpe came up with the idea of laying the city in a grid pattern with Squares, spaced out throughout this grid. Today there are 22 Squares, each beautiful and draped with trees adorned with Spanish moss. Each with benches and often with statues telling stories of a time long ago.
