Idea generation workshop “The 4R’s”
Our group worked on the skin cancer brief. We went through all the 4r's and came up with some great ideas. Re-expression helped me develop my ideas the most and consider a wider range of concepts. In the beginning we were all stuck on discussing sun cream and the importance of avoiding direct sunlight, but then we realised that skin cancer is not only caused by the sun. So we had to make a more general message and focus on all kinds of skin cancer prevention.
For our final poster, we chose a word play with the word mole and depicted an animal that offers to check your moles. With this approach, we wanted to raise awareness through humour. Although cancer is not a funny topic, we thought we didn't want to scare people by showing doctors, scary moles and other skin lesions. Our aim was to draw attention and encourage people to check their skin health.
Terms from presentation:
REVOLUTION - Revolution is turning an idea on its head. Taking assumptions and reversing or removing them.
RE–EXPRESSION Re–express the idea in a different way or point of view.
RELATED WORLDS Think of a related world and use ideas from that world.
RANDOM LINKS Forcing a connection with a random object. Random links often generate ideas which are off brief, but that doesn’t matter. Sometimes, the most truly innovative ideas can come with random links.
SCAMPING Early in idea generation it is important to test the validity of your ideas visually. This can be achieved through scamping. These are quick, rough sketches that communicate key points of the idea.
FIDELITY “the degree to which the detail and quality of an original, such as a picture, sound, or story, is copied exactly“
