But we’ve all been through a lot since then - a pandemic started, evolving community quarantines, personal and professional uncertainty, or the simple feeling of anxiety. Needless to say, a lot has changed and it things will never be the same again. One thing won’t change though. And that’s the company of people that keeps you keep on during the roughest of times. Haven’t had my new year’s essay yet (as if it’s required). But this one took some time writing because I wanted to specially dedicate this one to Orville. 2020 proved to be challenging and tough, having to deal with the pandemic more than the usual hustle and bustle. Things got a little out of hand, enough for it to take a toll on one’s mental and emotional being. Times like these, company, may it be family or friends, can spell the difference. I guess I’ll go by the saying that, “Maghintay ka lang, makakahanap ka rin ng katapat mo.” because I can say siya ang katapat ko. Ironically, we’re like night and day. Anyone who really knows me can attest to how loud I am, which is a far cry to how silent O is. Bathe us with alcohol and you’ll soon realize that the tables have turned and O is the one filling up the room with his voice. I’m on the more kenkoy side and he’s on the more serious one. I’m the morning person and he’s the not-so-morning person (understatement of the century). I can go on and on about how different we are. Or we can just say we fit and be over with it. Nah, just kidding. Orville picked me up when I was a dump. I had no self worth and I felt bad for making a mess of my previous relationship. He put up with my insecurities, long enough for me to realize we’re into something. He’s my anchor. He’s always there to ground me, reminding me that there’s always the earth to fall into when everything comes crushing down. He’s my reality check, always keeping me in touch with life and how it can easily punch you in the gut when you don’t keep yourself in check. But most of all, he’s my light, always there to illuminate my every step when things seem dark and gloomy. We agreed not to give gifts to each other this season. But I cannot let the holidays pass without saying how much he means to me. Baby, we just celebrated out 42nd month together and I wanted to say how much I appreciate you and everything you are to me.
