Hi and thanks for the ask. It's actually quite common that people misunderstand Vmin being high school friends as them knowing each other before BTS. But that's not the case.
Jimin joined Big Hit as a trainee last out of the boys. Taehyung had already lived in the dorm for almost a year together with the other members at that point. So everyone knew each other before Jimin even came to Seoul.
Jimin auditioned in 2011 and came to the dorm in May 2012. The first member he met was J-hope and all the members had already seen Jimin dance on video. When Yoongi first saw what Jimin looked like he thought "this person must either be really good at dancing or singing" because Jimin's looks weren't very idol like.
The first time Jimin met Taehyung he was naked except for his red underwear. But because of Taehyung's easygoing nature he managed to make Jimin feel at ease and the two of them together with Jungkook slept together (only in underwear) that night.
However when Jimin finally did come to Seoul he transefered to the same school as Taehyung. So they went there together and Taehyung introduced Jimin to his friends and told them to take care of Jimin. Jimin has mentioned how much Taehyung took care of him and helped him in the early days.
They weren't in the same classroom but thanks to Taehyung being popular he also had friends in Jimin's class. They often hung out together during lunch etc. and usually left together to go to practice and schedules after school. They also got some common friends that they hung out with on their free time.
Sorry, you probably didn't ask for a whole history lesson. But basically people seem to mistake Vmin being high school friends as them knowing each other before becoming trainees. Which obviously isn't the case.
I'm glad you asked though, because I see people think this quite a lot.
I love that Vmin are the same age and also went to the same school. I really think it made them closer and we often hear little anecdotes from their trainee school days.
So yeah, Vmin were high school friends but they did not know each other before the others, but rather met when Jimin became a trainee.
