How Daft Punk Used Talk Boxes, Vocoders, and Harmonizers to Achieve Unique Vocal Effects
A Father returns to his home to reclaim artifacts from long ago.
Frank Ocean's critically acclaimed album Channel Orange and Z's Mind of Mine share the same producer - Malay. He seems to like the voice processors and layers of effects. I think Malay produced some IF songs too but not all of them.
He did do some of the production on IF but not most. If I had to guess at a percentage I’d say Saltwives has more production credits. They’ve said they were unknowns and were grateful to Zayn for the opportunity. It’s true that a big deal was made of MoM using Frank Ocean’s guy, but Frank is still using heavy vocal effects post Malay. Zayn too, with different producers.
Song Review by Papa_Walken ‘Intoxicated’ - neon radiation Released 21-June-2019
The first aspect that stood out to me about this song was the awesome and unique vocal effects on the background vocals as the word “intoxicated” is being said. That was a really cool addition to the song and it fits in perfectly.
Another key aspect I want to point out is how well the instrumentals depict the mood of the song. More prominent in the verses and instrumental sections, this song can feel trippy but chill at the same time. However, that is the great thing about this song. Intoxicated individuals feel chill and the world around them is viewed as being trippy. The idea of the artist connecting the song theme with the instrumentals and mood being conveyed is pure genius and thought out well.
Lastly, I want to highlight how delectable the rhyme patterns are. The words aren’t simple rhymes, yet they are kept interesting with words such as “defenseless” and “senses” and “spinning” and living”. I appreciate the creative rhyme sequences here and they are rhymes most people would not think of putting together in a song, so this is commendable.
Overall, “Intoxicated” is an appealing song to the ear with beautiful lead vocals, interesting effects, tasteful lyrics, and it is kept original.

Vocal effect tutorials
Tonight I am watching tutorials for vocal effects because I can’t figure out how there are artists that can take one sound loop of someone saying something like “I love banana bread” and turn it into some sort of epic melody hook that carries the whole song.
I watched the following which gave me some good ideas and taught me a bit more about how ableton works (especially looping things through the reverb column):
And this tutorial which teaches a cool technique about layering a vocal track with a deeper sounding version of it:
The sound of my voice is making me high..
