another post talking about vocal techniques this time feat. andrew rannells

andrew has a pretty broad range and we can see this in major roles hes played, like elder price, whizzer brown, etc. hes also known for his pretty high notes in songs such as "i believe," and "the games i play." andrew does this thing where he brings the sound to the front of his face, allowing more nasal air flow. you can see this in the way his face changes shape.

he opens his mouth wider and raises his soft pallet so that more sound can come out. this combined with the nasal air flow gives him the ability to belt his high notes pretty effortlessly.

1:30:43 to 1:31:16 nice lows decent placement

1:31:52 im wet

1:32:23 too pushed/tense/closed idk…weird vowel shaping

good phrasing tho

1:32:39 queen of resonance

1:33:36 that C5 and the sharp couldve been a lot more open and relaxed

1:33:51 to 1:33:58 nice phrasing

1:34:03 one of her better Eb5s very well supported

1:34:16 strained but shes always had a rocky relationship above F5

1:34:43 no one can belt a B4 like ailee my GOD

1:35:03 well supported pushed resonance i like it but she could do better

its all usual ailee stuff but she always manages to make it worth the watch!!

santi can you manage to explain something to me? Idk nothing about vocal stuff but why do the high notes in chandelier seem so difficult? What is the technical reason?

theyre not actually very difficult its basically like Db5 and Eb5 and F5 where Sia sounds like shes gonna explode because shes straining like she cant support those notes but those notes arent impossible to belt sorry i took forever in answering this because i wanted to post some examples of other singers (mostly ailee bc i know her voice the best) singing the same notes in different songs.

u can go ahead and compare…sia souns gritty..is practically yelling…everyone else? beautiful, resonant, supported. so the way the song is sung by sia just makes it seem kinda impossible….but like…even I can sing a supporte Db5 u know what i mean?
