A little sound study test of Pac-Man's voice, should he ever get an international voice actor.
My philosophy for the voice of Pac-Man is as simple as him and his games themselves: I strongly felt to keep his vocabulary limited to one word (similar to Kirby) only speaking full sentences when the time is right.
However, he's not limited to grunts, gulps or very small dialogue.
To design the sound of his voice, I took cues from a good chunk of his 42 year history every time he made any sort of noise: his arcade titles, console bouts, computer entries and even the cartoons, including the original arcade game, Pac-Man World 3, the Hanna-Barbera series, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, and of course, even Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures.
I wanted him to sound of both Japanese and American background, with a cheerful, youthful tone, and comedic delivery, but also a heavy hint of age, to represent his senior authority. That way, he can appeal to everyone of any age and gender, but more specifically women/girls, as his late father, Toru Iwatani, intended for him.
As a soft, optimistic man who has a strong fondness of females, I fully agree with Mr. Iwatani's initial philosophy for his son.
And look where he is now decades later!
I love Pac-Man too much.
@bandainamcous, if you need a fellow to be your new voice for Pac-kun, I'm available anytime you wish. Just coin me up!
After all, his 42nd anniversary is only months away! :)
