Hiroto Voicy 2020/09/12
“I had his birthday wrong for this past 10 years.”
Hiroto went hiking to Mt. Takao on previous weekend🗻
I've made the translations on Twitter but I haven't got time to make a proper post here 🥺🥺🥺 He looks so happy and enjoying his nature trip. I really love his no-make up monolid eyes 💕
Hiroto’s Voicy 2020/07/29
“He is really sexy, as a guy I would fall for him!”
ーHiroto comments on a certain musician.
Hiroto Voicy 2020/09/25
“Compared to the physical look, I’m more interested to the core or the soul of both music and people.”
Disclaimer [I’m translating for fun and self-learning purposes. If you listen to the Voicy and happen to find some mistakes, please feel free to correct me☀]
So a couple days ago, Hiroto wrote via his Instagram story that the secret base radio broadcast on Voicy would be taking a summer break but then two days later he did a Twitcasting live while composing song for the next album from midnight to morning. After finished with the composing, he interacted with the viewers and made a poll whether he should stop and go get some sleep or record Voicy 😂
The episode entitled: What is the most important thing for Hiroto in composing music?
Hiroto explained the reason why he thought about taking a break. It was because of atmospheric pressure due to typhoon that hit his area. He felt like he wanted to back to the track and do his best updating everyday! When he recorded this Voicy, he actually hadn’t decided the topic so he went spontaneously with the flow 😅
The main talk: Human Nature is Music Nature.
Hiroto had already been composing for 3 hours since 4 AM in the morning and broadcasted it from the beginning to the end (of the process) but it got cut in the middle so he suggested people who want to watch the video, to check the Twitcasting archive. There was this feeling (during composing) like he’s doing a jam session with himself, like there’s no pressured feeling of having the usual phase when doing the real work. Hiroto thought that doing the composing while live broadcasting would become the new style of live broadcasting that hasn’t ever been done before, no talking and he just let people watched him work without saying anything.
Move on to next question: what kind of feeling does this person named Hiroto hold for having to deal with music, work with music, bring the music into shape? He thought it would be interesting to contemplate and discuss with the world about it.
When composing music, of course Hiroto takes into account the design (of the sound he is trying to produce). He worked at home using synthesizer and tone generator since nowadays they don’t use tape anymore. For example, if they are trying to produce a band-like sound that basically consists of guitar, bass, drum, and vocal, tone generator will be used and maybe add some more details later such as keyboard sound using synthesizer. (Note: in music production, the musician usually do this for demo songs). As for the noise problem, according to Hiroto, nowadays there are many high quality tone generator and you can even do it from your smartphone like iPhone with very minimum noise, so it’s really convenient from idea-perspective. In composing song, it’s not only the matter of delivering the beautiful sound but also the feelings. As a guitarist Hiroto believes that the fluctuation of feelings is the most important thing as it is the soul of the music. Compared to the design or the look, the soul is way more important. Just like people, Hiroto is mostly interested on how one’s mind works (how the person will do to achieve his/her goal), he’s interested in that kind of system. How much you’re driven by the feeling of this song, how much the soul packed into this song when it is sounded out, that is the most important thing to Hiroto when composing song. Furthermore, what kind of scenery to create, what kind of feeling I want people to have when listening to this? He also thinks about those later (because the songs are going to be performed live). The very least important thing is whether or not he can perform this song skillfully on stage. He considered that performing can be easily done by literally anyone if you practice enough.
Why would this person named Hiroto do all of these things that cost a lot and sometimes burdening? Playing guitars and stuffs, sacrificing so many things to produce sound? Because he want to be able to deliver scenery that can’t be put into words. He wants to present music that can be felt beyond people’s five senses. He wants to unite people feelings into enjoyment and excitement😭 (Imma be honest here, I got goosebumps when he said this. I really respect him as a musician).
Another problem Hiroto highlighted in composing music is rhythm. He was being straightforward by saying, “Let’s cut out the theory from this talk.” For example, if you remove the sound, the rhythm may or may not be constant. Originally, it should be unnatural but based on his 30 years experience, music has always been based on constant basic rhythm. However, based on the talk he often had with some experts around him, there is a sense of exhilaration and stability that can be obtained by having a constant rhythm. Even so, human nature is so close to errors, people may be lost sometimes. Hiroto then made example of two people taking a walk together. They can’t be always in the exact same speed. They have to discuss in order to match the speed whether they want to go slower as they have the conversation going or fasten the speed since there is something fun going on ahead, etc. That kind of fluctuation in music fascinates Hiroto in that way. (Probably he meant, in order to match the rhythm, a lot of discussion will be needed until the members in the band can walk in the same speed one another).
It’s true that matching the rhythm or speed is very hard, but isn’t it natural for people to try to match into something? For example in human relationship, people will naturally search for their match. At first, people will set ideals of what kind of people they want to meet, they’ll gather among people with those criteria, and as they get to know each other, they’ll find people they’re looking for and match with them. (This part is difficult and complicated, he even mentioned about sexuality but I’m not really sure what point he was trying to make, sorry😢)
That’s a wrap from Hiroto Voicy tonight! Because this is pretty heavy and full of technical terms, I might make some mistakes. If you happen to understand Japanese better, please feel free to correct me 😊
