A shriek echoed through the corridors, immediately to be followed by the clanking of armour and laughter as a fairy just passed by seemingly unharmed, taking too much of an abrupt turn next to run down the stairs. Soft layers of the light shades of blues and white as if floated behind her, right hand holding onto the railing whenever she turned her head to see whether the master of the house was getting closer just yet or not. At every glimpse she got of him, she tried to hold in a giggle but never quite got it right, pure excitement and joy pouring through her entire being without the need to ever stop.
The only time it came close to that was when she ran through door she never walked through before and shut it closed behind herself, her eyes to be met with vague darkness that seemed to linger around much stronger the further she went. Her pace slowed down and so did the sound of her slippers, human eyes trying to navigate through the lack of light she wasn’t accustomed to. Lorraine took another turn to where she still could see, only to be met with yet another staircase, though a smaller one that seemed to lead underground. Gulping, she attempted looking inside of there, at first just hovering above as if it would make her see any better and trying not to focus so much on the odd feeling that started to settle within her with its own unsettling effects. But then she heard the door creak open and she bit onto and swallowed the heart that jumped all the way up to her throat before descending into the darkness.
No longer quick in any way, she used her hands to brush against the walls or pillars or furniture she passed - at least that was what she was telling herself. Fully cloaked by the night, she became frightened, the smile gone from her face as her imagination ran wild. But what sense did it make for her to think she might run into a wicked hag as old as time in there or perhaps to find an open entrance to Hell to fall through? What sense did it make to think there were hundreds of eyes watching, silently awaiting her touch before eating her alive? No ! She straightened herself up, slipping across a carpet that turned her steps soundless and then hiding herself by the entrance of the very following room upon stepping inside. Leaning against the wall with her back to gain some stability, her hands reached out for her dressing gown to bring the fabric close to herself and to, if possible, push her heart deeper inside of her chest between the quiet and rather shaky breathing through her nose.
