standing on the SECOND last step to the cullen house , eye wary for a long moment && jaw set , he did not like the idea of being toe-to-toe with a werewolf much less working together as bodyguards . but here he was . waiting for paul to reemerge from the WILDERNESS && then to offer him the sandwich && coffee that esme had prepared for him . not sure what they wanted , or how sensitive their taste buds were , esme had loaded the sandwich full of different flavorings . all of which SOUNDED unappetising to jasper . still , the sandwich was weighted , ready in hand && sure enough , paul sprinted from the dark forest towards jasper . the only LIGHT source being the house - which shone out like a beacon amongst the dark .

nothing said between them , jasper remained taciturn as he passed the sandwich over .

Her peace offering: a grilled cheese sandwich, wrapped neatly in a bundle of aluminum foil. That was good enough, right? If Paul was going to babysit her on a hunting trip, maybe he’d be less of a sourpuss if he had something to eat, too. Peanut butter and jelly was her first option until she considered he may have a peanut allergy.

She passed it to him either way, avoiding looking him in the eyes. Maybe he if didn’t see her eyes to remind him she was a human-sized mosquito, he’d be a little more inclined to be a little less... scowl-y? She totally got the purpose of having a hunt-buddy-chaperone until she could be trusted more to be on her own while the Cullens tended to wedding preparations. Bree just wished it was maybe someone else... Seth, or even Paul or Jacob would be better. “How are there still deer in these woods?” She could hear one stepping through the grass in the distance, hear the huff of its breath and smell its fur. Her heart sank a little. Instinct egged her on to sink her teeth into a human, screamed that they were the prey, and her brain shut off at the scent of freshly spilled human blood so she could tear into them without mercy, without thought or guilt. Where animals were concerned, she felt the same way about them as she did when she was human. He seems to be just as irritated, but she is—at least—pretty sure he isn’t going to completely lose his temper. She doesn’t need to almost have her face ripped off again. She doesn’t exactly blame him for that incident outside Jacob’s house. She’d been a little emotional herself, not understanding what was happening to one of her best friends. Still, she doesn’t exactly forgive him either—ever since then, their interactions have balanced on a thin line between civil and snarky.

Today, that balance has tipped over into full-blown annoyance with each other and every second that ticks by is another that Bella wishes she could throttle him. ❛ Move aside, Paul. I just want to see Jacob. ❜

There’s a palpable pause in the air after her statement, and then, quite suddenly, he’s smirking. Bella has few precious seconds to register that he’s moving toward her before she’s unceremoniously hoisted up into the air and over his shoulder as though she were nothing more than a sack of potatoes. The squeak that leaves her lips is enough to make him laugh as he starts walking towards her truck.
