Twinganes Childhood HC’s

Just some general headcanons of Shiro and Ryou’s childhood because I just wanted to relieve stress.

Takashi is older by 12 minutes.

Their father came from a very traditional family, so both learned early about discipline and responsibility.

Though Takashi adhered to them more than Ryou.

As a child, Takashi would’ve used the personal pronoun “boku” (ぼく). Ryou, meanwhile, would’ve used “ore” (おれ) when not around their parents or adults. Otherwise, he also used “boku” .

Ryou uses “ore” to make himself look tougher. Especially when other kids picked on Takashi.

There was a time when Ryou thought he was the older brother.

He was watching one of his father’s old samurai films about two brothers and saw that the strong and tough older one was protecting the younger one.

Takashi was quite frail as a child and got easily sick. Ryou would insist on helping his mother look after him.

Ryou was really boisterous as a child and filled with energy. The type of kid who’d run around the house and roll around on the grass.

He’d drag Takashi around with him on whatever bizarre adventure he could think of.

Takashi would be the voice of reason and try to talk his brother out of things that’d get them in trouble.

He’d still give in to Ryou’s pleading.

Takashi was a really soft, quiet, polite, and bright kid. Teachers utterly adored him.

Definitely a teacher’s pet.

Generally a cinnamon roll but he still had times when he showed a cheeky side to him.

Ryou did do his work and he listened but he was just a ball of energy that got easily bored in a classroom environment.

Definitely a cheeky little monkey.

Both of the Shirogane twins are curious little beans. However, their curiosity manifests in different ways.

Takashi would be filled with questions, but he’s sometimes too polite or too shy to ask. You’d have to make the first move before he’ll ask you a question.

Is an astonishingly articulate little boy.

"But...why don’t the cherry blossoms burn up from the sun, then?”

Ryou’s curiosity manifests in one simple word: “Why?” Expect him to continuously ask you this until he’s either satisfied or gets bored or annoyed because your answers don’t satisfy him.

Takashi was always intrigued with the night sky and the stars. Yes, they looked pretty, but he always wondered if there were other people out there.

He really liked visiting the Uchinoura Space Center in Kagoshima.

Wants to get this huge telescope for his birthday.

Definitely always wanted to be an astronaut when he was a kid.

Ryou isn’t that much into space - preferring to keep his feet planted on Earth.

To him, space just looked really pretty.

But he prefers Earth’s natural beauty. Especially forests and waterfalls.

He didn’t really care much about the idea of what else was out there.

When they were really young (about 4-5), little Ryou would tackle little Takashi over and just start wrestling with him. Of course, when little Takashi started crying, Ryou immediately got off of him and apologized.

There were a few times they’ve done a twin switch as children.

Or at least, tried.

Ryou was pretty good at pretending to be quiet and obedient but Takashi?

It was tiring trying to be Ryou.

Whenever there’s a summer festival, you can also differentiate the twins by their dress. Ryou would be wearing a brown jinbei while Takashi is in a purple yukata.

Little Takashi had a tendency to hide behind Ryou.

He’d also clutch at his arm when he’s nervous.

Ryou didn’t mind when they were really young and actually liked that his brother depended on him. But when they reached around ten, he started to get annoyed and pretty self-conscious from it.

During Children’s Day (kodomo no hi “ こどもの日“), the siblings would be really excited about putting out the carp flags (koinobori “ 鯉のぼり ”).

Takashi was always intrigued by the big black carp - which symbolizes the father of the household.

There was something so strong, noble, and dignified about it. Just like dad.

Ryou just thought that all the carps looked really pretty together.

The twins seldom fought as children but when it happened?

Ryou would yell at Takashi, and while Takashi yelled back, he’d also start crying, prompting Ryou to yell at him to quit being a cry-baby because it’s embarrassing and annoying.

Then, their mother would come in to see what happened and separate the two.

Depending on what they were fighting over, it’d take thirty minutes to about two hours before the two are giggling and laughing together again.

Whenever mama Shirogane is cooking, the twins are eager to help her.

The twins particularly like rolling onigiri (rice balls).

Ryou is extremely ticklish and will laugh and giggle if you so much as poke his sides. Takashi? Not as much. You’d have to aim at specific spots.

Under his arms and his feet.

There were times little Takashi tried mimicking papa Shirogane.

He’d straighten his posture, hold his head high, and try to emulate his serious steely gaze. He also tried to walk like him and tried to mimic his speech pattern and tone of voice.

He just wound up looking really adorable.

Ryou would tease him to no tomorrow.

Takashi would cling onto Ryou a lot, feeling more secure with him around.

Also cried really easily.

He started to cry less easily when he was eight, but he was still pretty shy, tender, and got easily scared (like a frightened little rabbit), so he did cling onto Ryou some more.

Stopped clinging onto him when he was about ten.

Didn’t want to be seen as weak anymore, nor did he want to depend on Ryou for the rest of his life.

Ryou would get beaten up whenever he’d step in when the older and bigger kids picked on Takashi. Takashi would patch him up afterward, and always feel really bad at this.

Takashi started standing up for himself when they were ten since Ryou was getting embarrassed with him clinging to him.

Again, also because he didn’t want to be seen as weak anymore.

Also, because he believed that as the actual older brother, it’s supposed to be his duty to protect Ryou, not the other way around.

Note: From this point on, there will be a larger surge of non-Voltron characters coming in as I do not want to upload them and thus link to my main blog (I admit, I’m still pretty anxious and cautious of this fandom because of the...unsavoury people despite having a very positive experience), since I intended this AU to be a big crossover from the start (and Team Voltron are more the protagonist team). Those characters will be tagged “non-voltron” but still be under the “riders au” tag.

However, that does not mean that there will be no more Voltron characters - definitely not! (A certain prince in future, for instance) Just that for now, I do also want to continue this idea with a different range of characters.
