@the-strangest-heart for pointing this out: their post
Maybe Mike's "insane" plan to get out of Hawkins is to use the Upside Down to do so
Just watched the Volume 1 trailer again (Yeah I saw it first when it was released for Japanese audiences).
Mike says they have a plan that's "insane." I belieeeve their predicament in Episode 1 was laid out in an earlier trailer: they've been holed up in Hawkins and need to get out for some reason.
But it's pretty clear that they deliberately go into the Upside Down during Volume 1. So THAT is how they plan to do it?
And they are NOT entering the super gate downtown, but some kind of NEW gate we haven't seen before:
Did they just create it themselves? And maybe Mike saying "boom" is the end of the countdown from an earlier trailer when he said "Burn commencing in 5... 4..." Maybe that is the mechanism to somehow create a new gate?
Now why would they need to go into the Upside Down? To get to some place outside the military quarantine? Maybe the old Hawkins Lab?
Or maybe their goal is in the Upside Down itself?
Also it looks like Mike and Lucas are telling the "insane" plan to Erica. Here's a reverse shot:
Why would they involve her?
Anyway, random thoughts!
P.S. Please don't leak or spoil me things outside of official sources. I'm protecting myself from spoilers before I film my reactions!
